I just moved over from another hosting service and I have to say, I miss my old control panel. It was much easier to manage addon domains and set up users - and help is included right in the control panel. I have to say that I should have though more about switching to CPanel as it is not as friendly to use. I'll see what happens before my 30 days is up.
Please think about using Plesk or at least giving us a choice about what control panel we get to use. |

Once you have used cPanel for a while, you will wonder why you ever said you missed plesk

I was using Linux with Plesk and never had an issue. I'm thinking mostly from a usability standpoint. CPanel is not well organized and heck - where do I go to setup up users & permissions? This is not a very friendly system to use for people who haven't used it before. I could jump right in with the other control panels I've used.

Users and permissions for what?

i've used plesk, ensim and cpanel. you couldn't pay me to go back to plesk or ensim, despite cpanel's occassional bugout. but to each their own. i am in no way interested in participating in a control panel holy war.
if there is something specific you're looking to do, perhaps folks can help you get pointed in the right direction. by users, do you mean hosting accounts?

I wouldn't go back to Plesk...
perhaps if we can't help you and you insist on using Plesk you should find a host with such. |

Yes, cPanel can be buggy and the early releases of cPanel 11 were barely tolerable. Don't get me started about the infamous Easy:Apache update. But they've gotten it down pretty well now, and it should do everything you want. In the end, the control panel is the least of your considerations, so long as the features are adequate and allow you to handle your site with reasonable flexibility. Beyond that, it's the host that matters. |

Most users tend to prefer the control panel they used first! It takes a bit of time to get used to the new one, should be okay within a short time. I have used both and I would prefer cpanel any day. Trust me, feature wise, it is better than plesk and the GUI just takes some time to get used to.
For a hosting company, it would be foolish to support many control panels, as it would increase the cost of technical support.

And that's really the bottom line.

Cpanel isn't that hard to use. It is my first time, and I figured how to admin it in several days, and even with the advanced features. At first I thought it was confusing, but it gets easier once you figure out where to go after setup.

in my case, that didn't work out. (i had ensim first). i was unfamiliar with many of the concepts, and it was work to learn how to do what i wanted to do....although i'll admit i'm probably partial to cpanel in part now because i've worked with it so long, but a lot of it is that it's very pretty since cp11. i like cp's with icons and a nice presentation. and i totally love the integrated video tutorials. that's a major bonus to me in cutting down on routine support requests.

I was on a host a few years back that had Plesk and dropped it for security reasons. I like cPanel a lot better than Plesk. Granted this was years ago and the Plesk people could have made it better since but at the time of the change, cPanel was by far better than Plesk.
