Question Was I misinformed about multi-domain multi-eCommerce hosting for Baby Croc?

Hello,

I'm a brand spanking new Baby Croc customer. I intend to host multiple domains (all add-ons), some with osCommerce, most just for email. My main domain is just there so that I can organize all my add-ons under it. I'm planning on setting up robots.txt so that domain will not be indexed by the major search engines.

I was told in a pre-sales live chat session that all of this would work fine. However, based on a post I read from JeffR in this forum, I'm wondering if I was mis-informed or maybe misunderstood about my ability to do so under this hosting plan?

I guess I should also mention that I was planning on using shared SSL, at least at the beginning. Maybe that is a bad idea too?

No hard feelings if I ended-up with the wrong hosting plan. But it would be real helpful to know that sooner rather than later.

Thanks ... NJO

What you're asking is possible. You can use the shared certificates as long as you're fine with users getting warnings not to trust the site. IE7 tells recommends the user doesn't even visit the site.

In the future, you'll need a reseller account so each site with an SSL can have a dedicated IP...

Thank you for the prompt reply! I'll eventually go the reseller path but as long as it is technically feasible to accomplish my objectives, my current customer base will be fine for now with an explanation that wanrs them to expect the warning.

You may run into trouble using the shared certificate with php based sites. I have seen others in the forums reference having a 500 internal server error lately. When we were a reseller it occurred after an update after working for almost 2 years. I have logged into other HG servers and saw no problems with those I had access to so it should be able to be fixed if you do end up on one that has problems.
