Default Migrating vb forum to Host Gator - what will it be like?

Hi,

Just wondering what it will be like migrating a vb forum from dreamhost over to host gator?

I noticed some people seem to have gotten host gator to do all the work for them, would this be the case for a vbulletin forum? Or will I need to do all the backing up? I don't understand how to do SSH, so if I need to do this I will need help to use it. Dreamhost is taking too long to get back to me with replies, which is one of the reason why I'm thinking of moving over here with some of my sites.

Also how long would it take to migrate?

Many thanks

They usually take between 24 and 72 hours to do a complete transfer, but sometimes its faster.

They can transfer anything really, a forum is just files and a database, nothing fancy.

While they will do the move for you, you should still do a backup in case anything goes bad. Not likely, but be safe.

The only thing when transferring a VB (or any forum) is that it is a good idea to close out the board before you initiate the transfer to avoid any new posts/threads while the transfer is taking place.

After you receive confirmation that it is completed, change your DNS and place a redirect on your old domain to go to your temporary URL (accountIP/~username) and reopen your forums.
