Default Mercury maintenance.

We've had to take mercury offline momentarily to run a fsck on /usr/. We will update this ticket as we progress.

The fsck is through and the filesystem has been repaired. We will now reboot the server and make sure cpanel and fantastico are running properly before we restart services.

Mercury is back online and the /usr/ partition has been repaired. If you see any issues with it please let us know!

Curious....why do you guys do this in the middle of a work day? I get clients calling all upset wondering WHY don't you do this, say Sunday nite at 3am instead. They ask and I am left asking the same thing....

fsck is a file system check... only something you would do when there is a problem... this wasn't an optional or planned action....

they did very well on updates as well....

They need to do it to fix errors with /usr if they didnt run this the server could end up un responsive at a later date.

They need to do it to maintain the server

It's our pleasure. Our main issue here was that /usr/ was mounted as read only and as such Apache will not start. (Also, many cpanel features will not function as they are based out of /usr/local/cpanel). We do not ever like to take our servers down during peak hours as we know the adverse affect it causes on our clients. However in this case it was unavoidable.

Thanks again for being so patient!
