Question Memory in babyhosting

I ams considering just 3 hosts now. of which this is a shared first choice but I am afraid of one limit.

Hi I see for baby hosting there is 40 MEG PHP-Memory limit.
For one of the sites I would like to host here I require 70-80MEG.
This is only used on thumbnail generation of the larger images I want to have there ant after all is installed and operational this should normally happen just the first time the image is looked at. Then the thumbnail will be stored.

Is it a problem if I do a php override for this on this one domain?
I sure don't want to end up with a suspended account

Best Regards,

The 40 meg limit applies to all of our shared and reseller accounts. You can get a higher limit on a semi-dedicated server for $74.95 or a fully dedicated server.

You may be interested to know that we have a special running on Dedicated Servers, for just 75 dollars a month (compare pricing to any VPS plan!) we can provide you with a 1.7ghz Celeron. This Server is provisioned with an 80 gig hard drive, 1 gig of ram, and 1,500 gigs of bandwidth a month.

Heres a comparison between HostGators Dedicated server, and Liquidwebs best VPS server.

LiquidWeb VPS - $100 a month
40 gigs storage, 350 gigs bandwidth
512MB Ram "Guaranteed"
4 IP Addresses
VPS Access
Multiple Users

HostGator Dedicated - $75 a month
80 gigs storage, 1,500 gigs of bandwidth
1 gig of Ram to yourself
5 IP addresses
Full root access
One User, Yourself!

On HostGator Dedicated servers you will NEVER share your box with any other customers, this means no one can crash your server because of faulty or abusive scripts and software. If you need solid uptime and security, then this is the way to go. We do not guarantee your bandwidth or memory usage, we give you full control and use of it.

That is correct, this special is for an unmanaged server. Managed servers start at $174/mo: http://www.hostgator.com/dedicated.shtml

Yep Sam but about 8 times what I can afford now.
And First I thought you where pulling my leg:S

At this moment I do not make any money with the sites and actually I never expect that I will make that much money that I can afford those amounts.
The sites are mostly hobby sites.
Apart from this 40 MEG limit I think I can be very happy with hostgator baby.
The 40 meg limit pobably will end up as as show stopper for me with the baby gator:S

You are going to have a hard time finding a reliable shared hosting plan if you have to have the increased memory limit. There are hosts out there that will allow it but it means either putting up with slow service due to other users having similar scripts using a lot of resources or you will be suspended for using too many resources.

Hi Rick,
I found one with quad core servers and standard 64 Meg
and no problem if a site requires occasionally some more.
a 2nd one that has not given their limit but I think they are also flexible within some range.
I will start some test driving soon I guess installing webshops on all 3 maybe

I would check out any reviews you can find on the host. It's easy to offer just about anything. There are hosts that claim to offer unlimited bandwidth, tons of disk space, etc. but the first time your site causes any problems you are suspended. Good luck with whatever you decide.

I agree about the checking them out. I would ignore most of the review sites though as a lot of them are set up for advertising the host. I made that mistake a long time ago and thought I was going to a #1 host and found myself with a crappy host. I also went by reviews at webhostingtalk once with the same results. So it's still rolling the dice.

Although when you find a host that has praise for them in there own forums and still shows the few irate reviews (which any big company would have) you have a better chance. That's what you will find in these forums.

I suggest mrbert, you remember the name Hostgator as I am pretty sure you will find you way back after trying some of the others. I can say with my 2 years here as a reseller and 5 months as a dedicated user, they are the best I have found. I wondered around from host to host for the 8 years before them!

Hi George and Rick,

This host is one that is rated quite high indeed in many postings an they also have a 30 days money back try out.
I may join them to try. The do not run a forum like hostgator.

Hostgator I remember . If it was not for that memory problem I think I would have gone to hostgator. This 40 megs is just chasing me away I have a great Phote script that I want to use that suits all I want! And 40 meg is just to low to generate the thumbs

The script is TWG Tiny Web gallery

With smal photo's it runs OK with 40 MEG but with the full resolution 6 megapix photos the requirements are higher
And I want to offer also the full res pics

And I like the features TWG is offering me as an application.
I like the way thumbnails are created and how you can browse throug them and view a full size image.
I have no clu why it requires so much mem in thumbnail creation.

Smile Re: Memory in babyhosting

OK asked TWG deveopment for the memory.
They say that with PHPmemory limit at 40 meg I still can use my full size images. There i not much slack, only a few hundred pix at each side, but that will do for me
So now finally this problem might be solved.
I also did a quick test on two other image scripts but I still like this most

Zo maybe I end up being another
