hi,
i'm thinking of moving my site to hostgator. but i wonder how many max_connections are allowed on the swamp shared package. my site (a blog) has got about 15k unique visitors/day and i wonder if the swamp package is sufficient for that. regards, don vito |

15,000
you will need a semi-dedicated or dedicated server for that

it's just a blog (wordpress).
and i'm barely getting 100gb of traffic in a month so i thought that a swamp package would be sufficient. ![]() well - if not then i'll have to upgrade to semi dedicated ... |

Its not about the bandwidth.. mainly the CPU usage and apache connections

there is a risk to put at swamp...
where there is 25% cpu usage limit.. and 20 mysql concurrent connection... which is unlikely to hit the limit. but think of the peak time. which you need to estimate on it. however, its fine to start with swamp. when the site grow and really need to upgrade. hostgator upgrading is just simple and painless. fill in upgrade form, and support team will do all the job. i upgraded my account, and support reply me after 30 minutes, and everything done ... if require change of server, then some nameserver change on domain is require.

well - my site runs well on a similar package at a german hosting service. (just read here in the forums that the packages got some connection limits. that's why i'm asking here)
as my site runs with no problems during peak time i'll try swamp first. (it's also a different time zone so that our peak time here is 6 hours ahead of the us peak time) another question: if my site should eat too much cpu-power what does hostgator do? do they shut down the site or do they contact me first with an offer to upgrade? regards |

or if they can they may disable part of the script that is hogging the CPU - did to me when i was running one using fopen which was hogging the cpu. this would leave the site intact just wouldn't function properly)
