Default How many

Simple question, requiring a fairly simple answer. How many shared hosting accounts does HG place per server (average/rough estimate)? Same question for reseller accounts.

Thank you for your time!

You are not likely to get a simple answer to your question, especially in a public area of the forum. I have a dedicated server now but when I had a shared account I never had any problems with server speed, etc. HG does pretty well at monitoring the servers and keeping them responsive. Replies to similar questions in the past have been that the number varies based on the types of accounts on the server.

I know the company I worked for once would not give out that information. The number varied based on a lot of factors.

You could send an email to sales at hostgator.com and see what they say.

its true, overall the servers are not overloaded and also true you will not be able to find out how many people. you cant even tell how many are on your own from jailed ssh as far as i know.

there are exceptions, and those exceptions are true for all shared hosts, sometimes, about 3 times in 2 years in my case, a user of your server goes crazy, runs a bad script, is compromised, gets top list on digg, or something and sends your server to 30, 40 even 70 load average. but this is a problem on all hosts and if its HUGE for you, you should look into dedicated.

With the Number of Satisfied Customers at Hostgator, you shouldn't be worried about numbers.

Hostgator is a GIANT host and can easily throw in more hardware and new servers to adjust the loads if it starts getting Over-loaded.

Iam Sure Hostgator has not less than a few thousand servers already.

You were all very kind to take the time to answer me. Just to let you know, I know first hand that HG's doing a good job at taking care of the servers. I realise that the answer to my question would depend on a whole lot of factors, but an average would still exist. I won't hold anyone accountable for a server not meeting the specified number.

I had a live chat, and got a confirmation on the numbers I was aware of when it comes to shared hosting, but the reseller hosting answer came off as a bit of a surprise. That's why I decided to try another method (forums). I'm a forums freak, so it kinda' came to me naturally.

I think the number of shared hosting on a server is not a sole determining factor on the performance of the site. HG has top class hardware/software building their servers. I am not sure, but I think about 700-800 domains are hosted on a server. Don't take my word on this. I just did a whois lookup and it came up
