Default How many concurrent connections do you allow?

How many concurrent connections do you allow?

I am at PowWeb.com right now and they have a max of 15+ concurrent connections mysql/cgi per account, if you go over your account is locked. They say our forum is to big for their service?

I have I would say a small PHPBB2/Integramod forum but we have around 200 actively daily users which is easy to go over that 15 at peak hours.

Though most "big forums" have 10,000 daily active users.

Far as http n ftp go I could stick with powweb forever but in thelast 6 months their mysql/cgi stuff is to darn slow or you get constant errors.

You can try and visit my forum here but it can take up to 10 reloads to get in. Just note were down on member activity cause of the slowness.

http://viragotech.com/phpBB/portal.php

I need a new perm home that isn't gonna freak when we reach 300 active daily users next year.

I am willing to go with the resellers account if id out grow the shared hosting limits to fast.

Do you think I need aluminum reseller or would the virtual swap plan be fine for my needs?

A reseller plan would have the same limitations.

Aluminium or not, depends only on your disk need. Start, an upgrade takes an hour.
The limitations are, except BW, the same, 50,000 inodes (+- 50k files) 25 simultaneous connections to DB (Meaning on work), 200 E-mails per hour per domain.
Here you also have the TOS in case.

Come back fore any other question, forum menbers are around the world, like HG the forum never sleep.

hi. You can start with shared hosting, semi-dedicated plan.
where the single server is shared by 4 account. And you will have the cpanel.... its still is a shared hosting. But way much more powerful.

the plan is ready to upgrade to dedicated as you like.

i am with powweb as well. And its the fact that their mysql is much slower.

The concurrent connection issue tends to be problematic only when the connections are persistent. Otherwise, it would take 25 users clicking on the same link at the same time to reach the limit, not 25 users being online at the same time.

With most forum software, it would take many more people online at once to create problems.

There's a sticky about this in the shared hosting forum, with a lot of useful information:

Anywho how do search engine bots effect said connections?

most like google come in like a raving band of hoards with 10 different IPs at a time indexing everything. [I know that cause in my forum you can add search bots proper so they track visits n such right, well the add list is a mile long daily no matter how many IPs you add to the list] Id like to block them but then you lose search rankings. Almost any moment of the day there is a few bots on the site.

I really do hate change though. Do they let ya pay for just one month around here for any of the plans? I could then do a test move. Done already been burned at canaca.com sure they said for any reason in first 30 days I can get a refund don't worry bla bla bla but it took only 3 days to find out they suck even more then were I am now. And now that refund for any reason isn't hasn't come yet. They seem to be stalling till my 30 days is up. Took me 36hrs to upload 28megs of data, and even with dial up that unacceptable.

You can pay by the month. I moved one of my domains here a few months ago to test. There is a 30 guarantee but I can't tell you anything about how quickly that is done since I was pleased and have not had to use that.

I don't mind paying for a full month in any case, the canaca thing made me pay for a full year, trying to get that money back. Id gladly just pay for one month but their sticking me for 12.

I don't wanna bug sales as I have ask them to many questions already.

Wonder if anyone ever changed domains once signed up?

If I sing up and use viragotechforum.com to test run, if i decide to stay can I dump that n revert back to viragotech.com for my main url?

Or do the add on domains really run seamless where there would be no way you could tell?

LIke now on PW my other domains only look that way till you get past the index page for that domain, then the urls all end up with viragotech.com in the url so its dead obvious its not a real other domain.

Yes, the add-ons are that seamless. Some application packages (fora, etc.) may have a setting that needs to specify the starting url to avoid defaulting to the main.domain/addon folder/ url.

If you can't pay for a Semi, then I suggest you keep your forum small. There seems to be a built in need to grow forums, but without a steady supply of cash, forums need to be small.
