Reason #many of why I do not have my own servers. What a nightmare when everything goes to hell. Yes it sucked when all my sites were down, and yes it is hard to explain to someone that "no I just can't host your webpage somewhere else for the day...and yes email is affected.", but these are all the wrinkles that come and go with our environment. Personaly, the guarantee and money are a nice thing, but there has to be some reasonable expectations. Who's fault is it when "SoBig" worm slowed down the network on a grand scale? Or the major slow down on Sept 11th, 2001? But I understand that some clients do not want to hear any excuses. To that extent, I think it's more fair to HostGator in this specific instance of the "FUBAR" downtime, to only ask for reimbursement to directly compensate the clients that you have that cannot understand what happen and are demanding a refund from you, but not the whole amount that is your cost to HostGator. But then again, I do not have any fanatics screaming at me at 5ish in the morning.
Just my humble suggestion. I like to keep the faith with HostGator.

If you didn't notice it affecting you I wouldn't ask for a refund, but that's just me.
It affected me on one account and not on the other. (I have two, and I think they're on different servers.) So I'm only asking a refund for the one account because I have customers on it who complained about the downtime, besides which I don't even know if it affected the other account or not. *shrug* |
