Default Mailserver and SPF Record

Your Nameservers only have 1 MX record. If your primary mail server is down or unreachable, there is a chance that mail may have troubles reaching me. Why don't you have multiple MX records? If you use another type of redundant or fallback/failsafe mail soution, please elaborate.

Your domain does not have an SPF record. This means that spammers can easily send out E-mail that looks like it came from my domain, which can not only reduce my credibility but cost memoney. 01 Oct 2004 was the target date for domains to have SPF records in place. Why doesn't hostgator use them?

I plan on implementing multiple domains, I'm starting with 3; WARNING partial attempt at gallows humor follows... (1) site I'm transfering from hosting hell, (1) site from a reputable hosting provider that I've recieved extraordinarily great service from that unfortunately doesn't provide PHP and MySQL, and (1) will be a new, for research and development exclusively.

During extensive research I've read nothing but glowing reviews of your service (had never heard of your company), hoping to be aboard soon.

The nameservers, MX records, and website are all hosted on one machine, so chances are if you can't get to your Mail, you won't be able to get to your site either...

Well, that absolutely answers none of the questions I asked. Did you read my post? I'm not being confrontational, I feel questions from customers and potential customers should be addressed effectively or at least a "good faith" effort made.

Your answer did not address my concerns effectively, although they may have been made in good faith. Could someone with the knowledge or expertise address these concerns?

Regards

Unhappy Re: Mailserver and SPF Record

I think it might help if you could clarify your questions a little.
I have read your post several times and I have no clue what you are actually asking.

If you're a reseller you can add an SPF record to your domain or if you ask support to I'm sure they would. I was saying before about the multiple MX records because you're only one ONE server. So there would be no backup. If you're email went down, so would your web site.

Clarify?? The questions were directed toward those with expertise, not laymen or those with casual technical knowledge as it applies to server configuration. Why then would I have need to "simplify" (the statements were totally clear).

In the future, I'll not tell you to increase your technical knowledge base, if you don't insist that I simplify my statements for the masses. Agreeded?

That said, I withdraw my initial questions.

btw, thanks MachineDog for your followup statement concerning the ability to add my own SPF record, you truely do make "good faith" efforts to help and I appreciate them.

Regards

Yes your "statements" were as clear as they are when you copy-paste them directly from dnsreport.com.
What I mean by clarifying is that you could have said that you get those WARNINGS when you check a DNS report for a domain, and then simply ask how to fix them.
But if you like to be complex it's fine for me, your loss

Btw here is "The SPF Setup Wizard": http://spf.pobox.com/wizard.html
Luckily it's simple enough so that also those with casual technical knowledge are able to use it
