my King Croc gator account is for a .net domain, lets assume foo.net

the King Croc package allows for 2 "add-on" domains

I want my foo.com domain to be hosted here within my foo.net account, so the website visits to foo.com return the foo.com URL, and email accounts can be of the form USER@foo.com, distinct from my USER@foo.net accounts

your Flash tutorials are great, but I don't see one on add-on domains.

when I attempted to create the add-on domain, I got the following response (I obscured the domain name, password and last IP octet)

------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Addon Domain Addition

The subdomain, foo.com.foo.net has been added.
Nameserver ips for foo.com are: 207.69.188.xxx,207.69.188.202,207.69.188.xxx Sorry, that domain (foo.com) is already pointed at an ip address that does not appear to use dns servers on this server or master servers! Please transfer the domain to this server's nameservers or have your admin add one of its nameservers ips to /etc/ips.remotedns and make the proper A entries on that remote nameserver!

foo.com has been setup. It can be accessed via the subdomain foo.com.foo.net . Ftp access has been granted with the username foo.com and the password noway .
------------------------------------------------------------------------------

the cpanel still shows 0 "add-on" domains, but now has a subdomain of the form foo.com.foo.net, and the cpanel mail application does not have tthe new "add-on" domain in the drop down list when adding a new mail account.

I need to have this setup with email accounts so that once I transfer the DNS nameserver to those provided and all DNS changes are propagated, all the USER@foo.com accounts will work

thanks in advance

Hi,

I've just tried to add my existing .com domain to my new .net domain within my King Croc acccount.

It looks like I tried it the same way as izzy did, as I also got the same message and ended up creating a subdomain instead, which was not what I meant to do.

Could you pass on the steps needed to properly create an addon instead of a sub domain please? Or point me in the right direction for documentation (this seems to be about the only topic I could think of that you've not covered in your flash tutorials ).

thanks,

jez

assuming you clicked add on domain and did it from there you did it correctly. It says it's a subdomain although it isn't. It only says that so that the domain can exist in your current account in that folder.
