I am currently with another host and due to the amount of products our store has (10,000+), we are running into issues with going over our allowed Account Executions, and can only import a small percentage of our products or quantities at a time. After doing some research, I thought moving over to a VPS configuration may resolve some of our issues. If I'm correct, we should be able to setup and run magento on a VPS setup, but we likely need to contact support to enable innoDB with HG if possible. Have people had success with Magento running on VPS with HG?

Hi, I'm running Magento on a shared account and it runs OK. Import / export can be a problem, but moving to a VPS won't guarantee this will work.. Tried it on a heavy local machine and still import/export times out heavily.. I think the Magento import / Export function is not running well...
Success

The innoDB engine is enabled by default on our cPanel and Plesk based VPS solutions. In a VPS environment you would be able to adjust or have us adjust the timeout/memory limits necessary to complete the import as we would be willing to provide assistance when needed.
If you have any other questions about our VPS environment just let us know!

also, magento community edition 1.5.0.0 beta 1 gives you:
Improved Import/Export functionality for Products and Customers so perhaps magento developers are aware of problems. And of course, as stated by HostGator staff ChrisN, going VPS or dedicated will help you a long way (getting away from shared hosting is always a good idea when you need webhosting for business & ecommerce use, I guess).... |
