I believe the newer servers don't have InnoDB. Best to check with HG.

All the shared boxes should have InnoDB now, we're working on the reseller servers over the next couple of weeks.

Hi folks,
Has anyone else had problems whilst installing Magento on the reseller plan? I am looking for someone to walk me through the install for Magento version 1.3.2.1 if possible. I've tried the install a number of times but running into errors that I am unable to get past. It would be great if HostGator would do a step by step guide for this install - it is a fairly prominent eCommerce solution now, and I can only think they would benefit from helping us out here. wiL |

Wil,
Magento is not included in fantastico, so installation is not supported by our normal support. However, I have installed Magento many of times using the ssh version you can find here: http://www.magentocommerce.com/download Download the full release. You will need to get jailshell access (SSH) for your account and follow these instructions; http://www.magentocommerce.com/wiki/..._via_shell_ssh You will need to change permissions after all of these instructions however, as the release does not set permissions to SuExec/SuPhp standards. if you run: find -type f -exec chmod 644 '{}' \; and find -type d -exec chmod 755 '{}' \; From inside your public_html it will set your permissions correctly. If you would like, we can install Magento for you, however it will be for a fee since it is outside our normal range of support. If you would a quote for install of magento just shoot us an email at support@hostgator.com or open a ticket at https://tickets.hostgator.com . Thanks,

Why not install it yourself for free.

Performance of Magento is horrible under Hostgator's shared servers. This is mainly due to no optimizations in place such as MySQL query caching, php opcode cache and etc.

Just FYI I've addressed most of why we're not the *fastest* Magento host, but also not necessarily slow by any means in :
http://forums.hostgator.com/good-pri...592#post186592 Most of this has to do with how chatty Magento is with MySQL queries, and the fact that our shared and reseller servers do not run DSO for security reasons and thus can't make use of php Caching. The hosts which are Magento specific use DSO and Caching and MySQL query caching which can be a security issue. The real culprit is the way that the MySQL queries work in Magento they're just quite verbose and constant, these hosts that specialize in it are not fixing Magento, they're just merely working around it's pitfalls to make it quick. I would recommend reading the above forum post I've linked to for more information though.
