Default LPanel

Hostgator,

This suggestion is primaraly for the reseller accounts. I suggest considering moving to use Lpanel instead of Autopilot. Lpanel seems to be a much more complete billing and accounting system for resellers than AP ever thought about being. It is extremely easy to install, much much more user friendly, and diffinately easier to navigate. I personally have installed the free trial version, and used it for the 15 days, and have just recently purchased a lisence.

I know HG has a good relationship with AP, but fact is, even AP v3 is behind where Lpanel is already. Just wondering if anybody else has tried Lpanel. I have read a few old post on other boards about their support being slow. But I persoanlly have had very good response from support during my recent experiences.

I'm starting a trial period with clientexec just to see how it works. If Lpanel as a 15 days trial I may try that after. In a few weeks I will post my experience with them.

You guys seem very knowledgeable about this. How does one begin to automate securely the process of a client purchasing a domain name and signing up for an account?

1st thing to do is to install the program that handles the order process and all the billing. I recommend Lpanel. http://www.lpanel.net . Then once you set up all your packages and pricing and so forth you simply add your headers and footers to the templates of the billing program and link your order button to the appropriate location. Take a look here at this:

Now click on any one of the order buttons, and you will be taken to the main order process. Simply type in the domain name, and continue to walk thru the order process. Please note, i am having a slight alignment issue at this moment. The order process wants to center align, where as my main site is left align. I will fix this soon.

So I take it you didn't have any issues with installing it?
I am trying to install the trial version and get through step 3, click install, and then get two Warnings about fopen() and fgets(), and then I'm stuck.

From the looks of the forum a lot of people have install isses and complain of slow response time.

I'm dying to try it out! Any ideas??

are you using the remote install, or are you installing manual. I can't remember how I did it. I think I finally did it manual install. I had trouble once, with the remote installing the database correctly. I think I decided to create my own data base and do the manual install.

lpanel support should help you out with the install if you need help. Or give me your info, and I will try to help you out.

I ended up doing the manual install (which wasn't bad at all) and creating the database myself. But thanks for your offer of help!!

I really like the look and feel of it - and am looking forward to playing around with it. Unfortunately, I'm taking off for the weekend.

Would you be willing to help me out with the occasional lpanel question? I promise not to "abuse" you! I can send you my info, or should we move the discussion on over to the lpanel forum so that it will be helpful to others???

Oh, and I really like your website!!

So everyone knows, HG uses WHMAP because they worked out special deals with them for the use of the software. I'm sure they get a very nice price for the ammout of customers they have that use the software.

They likly will not siwtch unless they can get an equal deal, and who knows, they may be under contract with WHMAP to not provide any other software....
