Default Looking to duplicate HostGator locally

I have a Baby Croc and want to duplicate that environment as much as possible on my local linux system. Can anybody point me to information on the server configuration at HostGator?

For that you'd need to install cPanel/WHM.

Not looking to hit it that close.

It's mainly the linux settings. I think I can figure out the php and other pertinent things. There seem to be some effects of the file permissions and (jail)shell configuration that make some things work different there

You can probably get the majority of the info you're looking for from a phpinfo page on your baby account. (http://support.hostgator.com/article...hnical/phpinfo)

Beyond that, you'd probably need to ask a more specific question. We do a lot of custom tweaking and configuration changes on our shared environments.

Mainly lookning to see how you configure the (jail?) shell access,

and get the server to run as the user

If I'm correct, on the shared servers apache runs under the account of the user and also the group has the same name as the user

another odd thing is the result of $ ps -A shows the only processes running are bash and ps

server=apache

No, you are not correct.
Apache runs as user "nobody", PHP runs as the account username.
HostGator is using suPHP to run PHP.

Greetings,

Many of the points you've discussed wanting to replicate during this thread would be easily solved by installing WHM/cPanel. While that does require a license unfortunately I do believe you'll have far greater success attempting to duplicate our shared environments going that route as opposed to attempting to replicate the environment from the ground up.

Please let us know if you have any further questions!

Best Regards,

Install Webmin instead of CPannel as it's free.
