I'll be completely honest. I'm considering leaving my current host, Site5. I've had my reseller account for over two years now and prior to this summer I bragged about Site5 all day long. They used to be, IMO, the best host in the industry.
This summer, after management changed, service went down hill. Their forum blew up with complaints about how it was taking forever for tickets to be responded to. On the rare occasion I had to send a ticket, I faced the same result. But I stuck with Site5 because they stuck with me and handled all of my newbie questions with respect and professionalism. I even pondered submitting an application to see if I could help out in some way. (While I may not know everything about hosting, I do know about call center management, customer service management, and also emergency response (fire/medical) management. I threw in the last because it seemed (seems?) Site5 was in crisis mode. They were determined to get things back on track and what they needed, it appeared to me, was 'incident management'.) But I digress... I've noticed that in the past few weeks that my server loads are getting higher and higher and the server has even gone down a handful of times. I promised myself earlier this year that if my server started to go down that I would look for another host. I wasn't necessarily going to switch right away, but I was going to look for a backup. I believe I have found my backup (HostGator). But I'm not ready to bid farewell to Site5 yet. I'm thinking about opening a new reseller account with Site5 at their new server location, The Planet, and moving my sites to give them one last chance. It appears that their new reseller servers are more powerful but reading some recent posts in the Site5 forum they don't seem to have all the bugs worked out yet. I have contact HG five times now via live-chat. Four times with sales, one time with tech support. I am happy to say that I've been VERY PLEASED with my chat sessions. I also like the fact that Brent is very open about the operations of HG and provides his staff with a very relaxed working atmosphere while still insisting and maintaining high quality customer service. I've been so impressed that I have considered applying to HG, but I've never seen any Customer/Client Service Management positions posted. Right now I'm looking for advice from not only my fellow resellers but also other HG customers and maybe even HG staff. Should I give Site5 another chance and switch to a new server, or make the move and come to HG? Any other advice is welcomed as well. Chimp |

Nobody here is going to say you should stay there. This is the HG forum. Most of us love HostGator.

I kind of figured that, but I hope to get reasons WHY I should switch.

Before I brought the hosting, I asked a few questions that was a concern to me though their chat system and got all my answers, their support is fast. The forum users here are very helpful and you will always find HG staff always online in the forum. So to sum up, if you move here, you won't have any problems. I should add, I have only been here for about 4 weeks. (I think) |

I don't know about specific positions, but Brent's posted a few times about HG always needing people--there may be a link at the bottom of the main HG pages, or maybe the blog?

Well Chimp, judging by how long you've stuck by Site5 despite all the problems since the new mgmt took over, I'll say this for ya - you are certainly a loyal person. I'd want you on my team any day. :-)
I can't speak to whether or not you should stay or go with Site5, all I can tell you is that I'm one more really happy HG customer. Problems have been very few so I haven't had to contact support very often, but whenever I do I'm always pleasantly surpised by how good they are (you think I'd be used to it by now, lol). I'm not exactly a technical genius, but everyone I've dealt with is consistently patient, thorough, and ALWAYS there. And also pretty darned quick, in my experience. They definitely get a thumbs up from me... |

hg is pretty much always hiring. they have trouble keeping enough qualified staff to handle their growth. but you have to be local from what i understand.
if you do go with hg, your server will be at the planet as well, as this is the datacenter they use. peace out.
