I'm investigating live streaming - both audio and netcam.

The idea of the audio streaming is to take a live commentary from a phone link and make it available on a website.

I guess I know the FIRST thing about it but I really don't know the second thing. Hardware, software, best places to look for info, best systems? How do I set it up?

I've spent hours googling and I'm more confused than when I started. The most frustrating thing is that people are doing it everywhere. But how do I get it from the phone to the website and what, if anything, do I need on the server? Etc.

I don't expect detailed technical explanations, just if someone can start me off in the right direction.

Ive set up sites with Real Producer Plus G2 - Its resonably easy

Also, be carefull but there are some legal issues depending on which state you are in and warnings you have to give. I know in some places you can't do it without permission by both parties and all sorts of other regulations.

Hmmm

I'm told that hostgator doesn't support live streaming because of bandwidth constraints. But audio streaming is becoming mandatory now (for messages from your sponsor) and video streaming almost as much. I think with a good host like HG (who I like) I might expect a solution to streaming support. Anyone know if there are any plans to upgrade? I want to be able to play 90sec hiquality quicktime movies without the visitor having to wait five minutes while the movie buffers. GatorBen?
