It appears we are only getting questions and not answers here. Is there another thread on VPS?

Thanks,
Jim

No. Those limits are to prevent abuse of server resources, but since you totally own your small slice there is no point in them limiting it. Of course 100% of not a lot is significantly less than 25% of a whole bunch. So the actual burstable CPU/RAM limit is presumably lower than on shared hosting.

2) How scaleable are the VPS plans. For example, if I start at Level 1, but subsequently want to upgrade to Level 2, etc, will my sites experience any downtime?

1) Basically you can use all of the resources that you would like on a VPS server.

2) Yes you can upgrade your VPS at any time. Please remember that cPanel can only be installed on Level 3 plans and higher.

Okay, I have a reseller account with about 16 sites. I am interested in getting quicker load times for my sites (load times are not bad at all now, just want them to be even faster). Would moving to a VPS decrease the load times for my sites.

Is this directed at my post? If, so are you saying that my sites will load faster on a vps?

I suspect it's all a matter of how busy your shared server is.

For instance, my shared server runs at 2.4G. If the server is generally idle (and it seems to run at around 1% most of the time, then when I need it, I generally have 2.4G of processing power. The VPS, on the other hand, will run 2-4 times slower, depending on your package.

Similarly, other resources can be compared... memory, network bandwidth, etc.

Ok, bought a level 1 to try, but have to admit am kinda lost.
A very basic qn please:
Level 1 and 2 packages do not come with Cpanel, and I'm getting the same Plesk error message that was mentioned in a previous post.
Does this mean no control panels are available then?

I just recent purchased the entry level VPS, can't pass up the deal. However a note to all buyers, you must understand what you are doing when you purchase this. It's not like the shared cookie cutter hosting accounts. This comes with full privileges to do whatever you want, with in the duly noted smaller than shared hosting burstable.

Standard centOS with the normal LAMP mix it looks like. I would say worth the few bucks extra a month to a wise user looking for a customized situation. Not for beginners.

I had hoped to take advantage of the first month discount but too many questions have gone unanswered.

What are PHP, MySQL and Perl vesions compared to current reseller shared accounts?

Does anything preinstalled with shared reseller accounts have to be installed by us with VPS. What's the stock software package?

Is SSL included or is that extra?

Someone wrote that Fantastico won't be available for a week or so. Does this mean that current Wordpress Websites and other Fantastico apps won't work or have problems if reseller customers have them now? It's hard to beleive that there's a current reseller not using Fantastico apps.

Because questions are not being answered, will the discount be extended for those who've made posts here?

Yes, I am relating this to you. But be sure to choose level 3-6 VPS plans.

There are a few unanswered questions here for some reason, reseller seems to be a subject that is not being answered fully.

should this be a sticky?

We can't really save you a spot with the soft launch.
Once we stop the orders we will most likely have our final launch roughly 2 weeks after, in order for us to provision new servers.

Hello,
I'm assuming you are referring to a cPanel VPS package, since you mentioned fantastico.

The PHP, MySQL and Perl versions are pretty much the same.. PHP is version 5.2.8, MySQL is 5.0.x, perl is 5.8.8.

The stock packages on a cPanel VPS is basically everything you need for a standard web hosting solution. By default it comes with many packages, roughly 400 of them. Is there anything specific you want?

You can install any SSL that you would like, we don't give you a free signed SSL with the VPS, but you can generate self signed ones, or purchase one.

Fantastico isn't included in our VPS packages. We are going to see if we can possibly get it as an addon in the future. Fantastico isn't required to install Wordpress. Actually nothing that you can install with Fantastico is required that you have Fantastico.

I hope I answered your questions.

That is correct. We do not offer any control panels with Level 1 and 2 VPS plans since we believe that there isn't enough RAM. The Level 1 and 2 plans would be decent for a LAMP setup, development, a small streaming server, a couple of sites etc...

A control panel adds a lot of bloat to a system, both hard drive and RAM.

Being on a Shared server can be a good thing, since we do allow you to use a lot more CPU power then what a smaller plan would be for VPS.

With a Shared account, if you need to use 100% CPU on our Dual CPU servers, you can... as long as its not all the time.

VPS gives you a lot more customization.. you could technically rebuild PHP with only what you need, and possibly make it faster then a shared server, for page loads.

Both VPS and Shared have their ups and downs.

Will existing shared reseller accounts that are migrated to VPS retain their Fantastico installed programs such as Wordpress?

Thanks for the reply GatorDaveC. I think I want to make the move over to the VPS. Can I start the VPS using an extra domain I have to get familiar with it and gradually move my sites over? I don't want to move them all at once just in case there are hickups.

Once I have all my sites over can I change the main domain from my "extra" domain to my current main domain?

I may have to take that back.

Live chat told me it was fully managed and that you guys would set up our VPS's to our specs. Now, after purchasing a VPS, they are telling me the opposite.

I've filed a report to the sales team who will hopefully help sort this out, but if it is not the case then this was a waste of time for me and I'm not happy.
