You can do a lot with a Level 1 plan. You could learn how to use a *nix based OS, run a shoutcast server, do website development on it, run production websites, run applications that shared hosting can't run...

You could install Webmin which is a little administrative control panel, it will let you configure most things more visually.

I got a Level 1 and not sure what to do with it just yet as it doesn't come with Cpanel or Plesk Control Panel..

Any suggestions..

I have a level 3 account and it is great so far. HG transferred my sites for me from my reseller's account and since then everything has been much smoother (not that I had any real problems before, since HG has great servers ).

Hello,

Since many of you missed out on the VPS Soft launch. We have decided to do a 2nd soft launch while we wait on a bulk order of servers for our final release.

You may order your VPS at the following URL http://www.hostgator.com/vps-hosting/

GatorDaveC,

That's cool!

Is there a coupon code?

Code "THANKYOU" isn't working.

That coupon was intended to only be available for 2 days on the initial soft launch.

I just activated the coupon code "THANKYOU" again.

Do I have to wait 48hrs after signing up, for the VPS to be set up? I'm still waiting for the email it says I should be receiving.

Your VPS should be created now.

I've received the email. Thank you.

May I confirm that all my domains and websites will be migrated & my existing shared hosting will be automatically cancelled?

You will have to fill out the following form to have your websites transferred https://secure.hostgator.com/reselle...rdedicated.php

We don't automatically cancel your shared account, since many people want to use both accounts.

To cancel your account, please fill out this form **Only after your website has been transferred**
https://secure.hostgator.com/cancel.php

Thanks for the info.

FYI I checked with your live (chat) support just now & I wasn't given this info.

Instead I was told it takes up to 48hrs to set up the VPS coz after a few hours of signing up I didn't receive any form of confirmation email. I was also told domains and websites "should be" migrated & shared hosting closed automatically.

Not a big issue though just a feedback, needs to be better informed.

If you could PM me and let me know who you were chatting with that would be great.

I've checked into the ticket for you and I'm going to have your sites transferred for you as it is indeed stated (albeit incorrectly) that we'll transfer your sites when upgrading to any VPS package. I'm having that verbage corrected to reflect our actual policy which is that free tfers are included only to VPS's which include cPanel.

Hi,

i checked the vps plan's and seems to be good

i have a question regarding the ip's, you give 2 for free but someone that buy the vps for a web server need to buy 1 more (2 for the dns and 1 for the webserver)

i'm right about this?

also, what it's the limit of ip's that are allowed to buy? (asking for the SSL certificates, that require a unique IP).

Regards,
Shadow.

You can use one or both of the IP addresses for nameservers and for websites. The nameserver IPs do not need to be separate from the IPs for the sites.

Normal configuration is that you use the 1st IP for the 1st nameserver, AND for the Main Shared Virtual Host IP. Your server's hostname must also resolve to that IP.

The 2nd IP you use for the 2nd nameserver, AND you can also use if as a dedicated IP for any site in your server.
