Default I know this is a long shot, but FFmpeg

I know this is a request that cant be fullfilled but i had to try, It would be nice to have the option to install ffmpeg on the shared hosting, as i have another website which i would like to transfer to Hostgator but cant because it uses ffmpeg, and cant afford a dedicated server, as the sevices, speed and uptime of Hostgator has been so good, it would be nice to have both of my website on here...

Regards

Good luck, I tried when we were on a reseller and is was the one request they said used too many resources. After going dedicated I installed it, but had to jump through hoops to do it.

Hi!

The only reason behind FFmpeg not being installed on shared servers is that it is so resource intensive in the fact that it is commonly used for social video sites. This enables multiple users to all encode videos at the same time- which will create a pretty unpleasant experience not only for your users, but for the other people on the shared server. We'd love to install this on a shared server, however we have to think about the other people who are sharing the server with you!

ffmpeg is used by a few php based programs, one of which is Gallery2 which works nicely. I set it up on our server for a couple users who are very happy with it. The better question is why would anyone use wmv? Is that you Bill?

George and Matt,

It always makes me feel warm and fuzzy when you guys express your feelings about Microsoft.

Will Host Gator install FFmpeg if I have a dedicated server account?

We can install this on a dedicated server, however it is billable admin time and the cost is $75. If you are needing it just send in a ticket.
