This is clearly a newbie question. I have two domains. One initial and one addon. When the add-on name is used the browser shows the initial domain with the subdirectory:
type: addon.com -> shows: initial.com/addon I'd like to show only the add-on domain name when the site is accessed using the add-on url: type addon.com -> shows addon.com How is that done? Thanks! Larry |

Hi Larry,
It seems you have just redirected your addon domain to a subdirectory in your main account You need to create an 'addon domain' using cpanel and update your nameservers with your domain registrar for changes to take effect |

Larry I have the exact same problem and same question. Keith W, I was originally told there is no reason why I should have to set my DNS servers for all the domain i host for to the ones provided with my reseller account. The very first paragraph of the article you linked says "set all nameservers to be the ones provided with your hostgator account" Would this cause the addon domains to not show up properly in the address bar which is my original problem?

While the second paragraph is correct, what makes you think Larry redirected? Addons will always show that way, though they are also supposed to be accessed directly.

If the addon domain is yours, you could give it its own account with WHM. Or you can make it an addon of any other domain for which you were supplied nameserver. But either way, the nameservers need to be set at the registrar, and they would use the same nameservers--it's cPanel and WHM that take care of things once the DNS refers traffic to the server. |

OK, so reading between the lines, if I want the url that was entered in the browser address bar to remain the same when the viewer actually hits the site, then I need a reseller acct rather than the sort of site that I currently subscribe to. Correct?

As long as you have a hosting account that allows addons--all but the least expensive--you should be fine. First, set the nameservers at the domain's registrars to the one provided in your original HG welcome email. Then, create the addon domain in cPanel. It will make a directory within public_html/www for the addon's content, and visitors should be able to see the addon site at www.addon.com. (Note that because of the cPanel process, the addon is also a subdomain of the main domain, so can be reached via www.addon.maindomain.com or www.maindomain/adddon but that's just part of the process.) |

I did just as you describe. The addon url is mentenfamily.org. When I type www.mentenfamily.org the address bar content changes to: http://family.menten.org/ I don't want that url to be visible. What i want displayed when the user enters www. mentefamily.org in the address bar and presses return, is www.mentenfamily.org, just as entered. The configuration that I used is below. Do I need to upgrade my account to get this behaviour?
mentenfamily.org http://menten.org:2082/frontend/x3/images/homeb.gif/public_html/family family not redirected Remove Manage Redirection |
