I have to say thus far I have nothing but praise for Hostgator support. I am not saying that they are perfect but which hosts out there are?
You should try hosting your sites with some of the other hosts in the hosting business! I even see Hostgator answering posts in the sharks pool that is WHT! As for people complaining about live support it has been said before that live chat is really for pre-sales questions and basic tech support. And no disrepect to posters not just in this forum but in others too, they are not exactly without blame! I mean seriously would you call the Ford dealer to return a car that blew up because you didn't put oil in it? |

That's a very wise post.
We have tons of problems, every company in the world does. What makes us stand out from most is our support, uptime, and ability to fix practically every problem. Rarely do you see a post bad about us someone saying "hostgator didn't help me." It's almost always someone complaining about being helped and losing patience due to us not explaining it good enough, with a mixture of a lack of understanding on how hosting features work. Some complaints are called for many aren't. We as a host have no way of knowing if a client is going to understand something like "you ran out of bandwidth" it's the clients job to respond back asking for the definition of bandwidth if needed. The problem comes in when instead of asking for more help they rush to the forums to bash us for not answering aquestion based on their level of understanding. We get phone calls all day long from people saying their sites down when they aren't even connected to the internet. So yes when a site loads us we will ask if your internet is on. Some people get extremely insulted when we ask this and start yelling. Everyone has different understandings so when we explain things we have to take the middle road. Answers are almost never as simple as black and white. When someone says their emails not working we have to assume it's one of the every day problems from misconfiguration. We can't email back with something like ... "is your compter on" Thanks to all who are willing to work with us to solve your problems.
