I would be grateful if Joomla! 1.5 was part of the "Scripts Library" under "CMS" or upgraded in Fantastico... seems I'm growing quite fond of it and now people are asking me to do something for them with it. I've just ordered the book from Amazon, so I feel its a piece of software that is definately becoming very popular.... anyone else? can we vote on things we would love to see Hostgator providing for us somewhere?
Thanks again for the wonderful service with Hostgator, I really do enjoy your hosting services and Online Support is always so helpful and polite. Warmly Victoria Lorelle |

Howdy
Just send an e-mail to support@hostgator.com and request that Joomla 1.5 be enabled in Fantastico on your server. It is already installed but not enabled by default so some servers have not had this enabled yet. Be sure to include your domain name in the e-mail. We have stayed on top of tickets all week so it should be turned on and responded to within an hour. I would do it myself but am off shift until Tuesday. As always, thank you for your business!

Why would they not just have it auto update? I am considering switching over to joomla for a new CMS.
Really steller looking sites!

I wish it wasn't so, but there is really is *no* fear that anyone should have on a manual installation of Joomla. Upload the files, create the database in cpanel, and answer a few (very basic) questions through the installation. If having it auto install through Fantastico via cpanel is your hang up, I'd highly recommend exploring how easy a manual install is. |

HG: Why don't you just enable it default on all servers? It makes more sense than requesting for it.

What do you want them to enable?

Hello everyone. I saw this thread and got excited. I know I can manualy install 1.5 but I like the backup part of doing it though Fantastico.
Here is my interaction with support on this issue. I don't understand. Do I have to update all my sites to .15 then I can move to 1.5? Any advice? Note: some editing has been done to remove links and email addresses. Quote:

Ptobabaly a dumb question.
What is the difference between Joomla and dreamweaver and word press? |

Joomla and Wordpress are CMS's (content management systems) whereas Adobe Dreamweaver is a standalone program used to create or edit files that are associated with websites, like html pages, style sheets, etc.

OK, I see the separate listing in Fantastico for joomla 1.5 It won't let me install more than one script in a root directory. Is there an upgrade strategy, I should know about?

However you can install on two folders and use re-direction if needed. |

So am I hearing that it is better to just let the install be in a separate directory, or should I back up and then remove 1.0.x and install in the same directory. I really like having the site in the root, but I guess since I am not using the same implantation, it would probably be better to have separate anyway due to anyone having bookmarks.

Just as an FYI, I have been using the instructions on this link to upgrade from Joomla 1.0.x to Joomla 1.5. Here are the steps I have used to upgrade.
http://docs.joomla.org/Migrating_fro..._to_1.5_Stable 1. Use Fantastico to Create a new instalation of Joomla using the Joomla 1.5 in the menu (not the one that just says joomla). I Created a new directory, in my case called it \home\. 2. Then I downloaded the migration tool talked about in the link above and followed everything up to the created the SQL output. Note: This is where I stopped following those instructions. 3. Then I downloaded the migrationasistant the one for Joomla 1.5.2 and installed it on the new joomla site (the 1.5 site). Then using it under the componets menu, I told it on my desktop where the sql file was and ran it. 4. Then the process of choosing a new template and turning back on everything I want displayed and installing all the components I wanted. One cool thing, I use GoogleAdsenc and when I installed the mod I use for it, It immediately picked up all the previous settings. 5. ... To be continued ..... I have yet to point my domain to the new site. I am going to play with and test it for a bit before I move the traffic over. So If you have suggestions or information you would like to share on how to do that, it would be most welcome. |

I am doing this at this very moment but am having a problem. I created the database in Mysql and am going through the installation now but am up to step 4 database configuration but I cant get past it as it doesnt connect ( comes back with connection error) I dont know where to get the host name from? Am following someone elses install instructions but they got the details another way which I cant seem to figure out through here. So where can I find the host name that apparently should look something like this pxnxxxmysqxxx.secureserver.net Help?? |

The MySQL host should be localhost.

hmm getting closer. Am really new to al this.
got this message now. I beleive cookies are enabled "Cookies do not appear to be enabled on your browser client. You will not be able to install the application with this feature disabled. Alternatively, there could also be a problem with the server's session.save_path. If this is the case, please consult your hosting provider if you don't know how to check or fix this yourself." Am wondering if I FTP Joomla to the right place when I uploaded it :-( |
