Javascript suggestions

I found an image navigation script on the net that was almost what I needed. I stripped it down and built the script so it function just perfect for my needs.

I`ve got to the next stage however, and I could do with suggestions on the next course of action.

The javascript in question is losely based on the following

and my ambition is, when an image is loaded, I want to be able load another image to overlay over the top of the first. This overlaying will be a transparent gif with some textual content.

Now if this was plain old html, then I could use the image underneath as a background image, and go from there. Little bit more awkward with JS
