My old web host (I'm currently looking for new hosts and HostGator is near the top of my list) provided SSH access for their accounts. At first it was simply plain old shell access but then they moved to jail shell access.
My undersatnding is that this provides a layer of security - preventing the user from doing any real damage to the system since everything is virtual. I'm not really sure how it works but this site has some decent info: http://www.jmcresearch.com/projects/jail/ Has this been considered here at HostGator? - Roberto |

We can allow jail shell for 24 hour period, but nothing permanent. Thanks!

Really? Cool! How quick could that be turned on if it is needed?
Thanks, that answer just solidified my decision to use you as my host. - Roberto |
