Issues upgrading to php5

I added the following line to the .htaccess file:

'AddHandler application/x-httpd-php5 .php'


and tried running it through extra features in cpanel but it still keeps displaying 'php 4.4.4' in the 'server information' box

That is because php5 runs on whatever directories you add it to recursively as an add on but cpanel reports the base version.

Upload a php info file and it will tell you the version of php the script is using

i tried a file with jsut <? phpinfo(); ?> contained didnt load rediverted to my homepage.
