Default IP and mail questions

I'm looking to switch from my current host and am considering Host Gator.

Two questions:

1. I would host my main web site (www) with Host Gator but have subdomains that I need to keep running on fixed IPs I have elsewhere. Can Host Gator provid DNS for these subdomains to the fixed IPs I would specify?

2. I see from the cPanel demo that Host Gator provides "Mailman" as a mailing list program. Is there a limit on the number of emails that are sent per unit time? My current host has a limit of 200 a day and 50 per hour, which they did not advertise and I wasted alot of time trying to figure out why most of my list members weren't getting my emails.

TIA.

The mail limit is 200 an hour if I'm correct, and as for DNS you'll have to get support to do it for you. Otherwise you'd have to get a reseller inwhich you can manage DNS directly from WHM.

Just wanted to add the link to HG's mail policy.

Thanks for the reply and link to the policy (more info that I was ever able to get from my current hosting service).

So the limit is per hour and not further restricted by day.

Is there a way to "throttle" Mailman? I would prefer to continue using that. Our announcement list is self subscription. May grow to a thousand or so and we would send an announcement a week or so.

Seems that it's not possible, look here: http://www.python.org/cgi-bin/faqw-m...yes&req=search

Thanks for the link. Leaves me wondering why Mailman is the default mailing list management program on cPanel given its incompatibility with the throttling requirement of most hosting services.
