On older servers... not on all servers.

Right-- my understanding was that you get it if it's currently on your server, but no new customers will get it. Support is probably the best source to ask.

Thanks everyone for your answers,

I sent a support message and this is the actual answer from staff:

Hello,

I am sorry we do not currently support InnoDB format on any of our shared or reseller servers. Please let us know if you have any questions or require further assistance.

Thank You,

imho It would be nice if this forum has the ability to search, by that way I wouldn't bother people in here with this kind of redundant question

Cheers

This forum "have the ability to search", doing a search with "InnoDB" gived 41 results. The more recent ones confirming that InnoDB was no more supported...

Don't you see the "Search" item in the top menu here?

Well that is not technically true, it may be true for some severs but I can categorically state that one of the servers I am on has InnoDB

As mentioned in a couple of posts here and in other threads it is no longer an option but some old servers did have it installed when it was supported and HG did not remove it. Maybe a better response would have been that it is no longer supported or that it is not supported on new accounts.

Hi Rick,

I am quite happy with my response

Jonathan N said: "we do not currently support InnoDB format on any of our shared or reseller servers"

This is not true and I was merely correcting that

But the OP was asking if it's available in the hosting package. If he/she were to sign up for the hosting package it would not be available to him/her.

So really, for simplicity sake, everyone is right......

Nope! I suppose I can't see it because I'm not a customer of Host Gator and have limited privileges. Lucky you that already have an account with them, I heard so many good things of Host Gator even in the google groups forum and some others forums Host Gator has a very good reputation

IMHO they decided not to support InnoDB in recent share servers cause spend too many resources for the server, I've been searching and the majority of share servers in any web hosting plan don't offer it
Although I'm going to take your advice and ask them if it's possible to be placed in one of those share servers you mentioned it for a possible new costumer.

From the other threads on the topic one of the main reasons for not supporting it is because of problems with database corruption.

OK people hope this clarify some doubts!

Support answered:

Quote:
Hello,
We have had quite a few requests regarding Innodb and the Magento upgrade. It is true some of our older servers already have this enabled. Unfortunately, we cannot enable innodb on the server nor are we allowed to move accounts to the small number of servers that do have this enabled. I apologize for any inconvenience this may cause but there are no plans to change this policy at the moment.

Best regards,

IMHO might be in the future they have to add a new hosting package offering InnoDB charging an extra fee since Magento is becoming a very good CMS E-Commerce Solution

Hmmm, Perhaps some users didn't read the restrictions:

http://dev.mysql.com/doc/refman/5.1/...trictions.html

Anyway, Most probable in the near future I will open an account with some of the hostgator's hosting packages in the first opportunity.

Thanks everyone for your interest on this thread.
