Default Increased Spam

I am a reseller and have received numerous complaints this week in regards to increased spam.

Upon checking SA on the latest complaints Control Panel, it is set at 3 yet they are getting tons of spam.

Without enabling the whitelist option (Box Trapper, or whatever it is) as this is a major inconvenience, what can I do to decrease this increase in Spam with SA?

I have read through the posts and one Gator recommended decreasing the limit in SA but this is apparently not working.

Without having to transfer all my clients e-mail accounts to some sort of E-Mail hosting service and costing me more $$, what is being done or what can I do to decrease the increased amount of Spam getting through SA?

Thanks In Advance.

Advise your clients not put put their e-mail address on their site in text version. Make an image of it or create a form that doesn't have the addy in the HTML but php instead, anything that won't be seen by a bot. Will help a lot. Sadly spam is so out of control everywhere, just not much you can do anymore I feel. Can't even ban the word "Viagra" without having to ban "sword" as well, lol

Spam Assassin has been great for me personally. Helps out a lot. Doesn't catch them all of course but a great deal. Setting keywords to look for helps alot just make sure it's anything someone could really use in a legit e-mail.

Gather resources like what I've said, type up a professional "how to cut down on spam" e-mail and send it off t your clients. Another big thing, tell them not to use their main address for everything and that'll also help. In other words, don't sign up for the sweepstake of the month or casino website with one you don't want spamed.

Thanks for the response but something has changed in the last week or so. My settings are also set to 3.

I also have accounts at different hosts, and no increase at the others, and they have many text e-mails posted on their websites.

Been doing this for years, also my clients are informed by me on how to help cut down on spam, basically outlining some of the info you suggested.

Again, I have many different hosts and have only been with HG a short while (about 50 accounts), but the level of spam at HG has increased significantly.

I too have seen a major increase in spam levels. From 1 a week to 10 a day! (and yes I know I'm one of the luck ones!)
I have noticed that the BAYES scores have not been appearing in the headers, even in very obvious spam.
Perhaps the Bayesian filtering has been switched off?

There has indeed been a massively HUGE increase in spam levels in the past couple of weeks. I have gone from a very acceptable handful of spam mails per week to an average of 150 per day!!! This is insane and very difficult to manage.

Hopefully this is just a matter of something that has been switched off somewhere or some unintended change that can be quickly resolved to get the spam back to the levels we were at until about 2 weeks ago...

I have a couple of accounts still on other hosts and have not seen this same bombardment in spam as with my HG accounts. It's as if something has gone astray. Hopefully there's a solution?

Maybe TP removed global network filters?
Or HG put down their spam security levels as non spam emails were getting rejected also?

I am having the same spam problem also (increased 3-4 fold in the past couple weeks). My Spam Assassin has been set to 3 for over a year and it never puts any false positives in my Spam Box. However, I don't usually care about spam because I have the Spam Box enabled. But recently all this new spam is going to my Inbox instead of the Spam Box. This is very annoying as I use a Blackberry so it keeps going to my phone instead of the Spam Box.

I really don't want to switch hosts, but it is very inconvenient and annoying for all this spam to suddenly start going to my Inbox and thus, my Blackberry.

And for what it's worth, my email address isn't even listed on my website at all and I don't respond to spam or sign up on any shady email lists.

I know there is an increase in spam worldwide but I am confused on why my Spam Box isn't working for almost 50% of the spam I am getting lately.

Thanks..

Steve

I ticketed support yesterday and they said the problem was corrected. Since that e-mail, I have personally received more spam than ever.

Update to techs!!

This spam is coming in even worse. Just got an e-mail (spam) which stated the e-mail contained a virus picked up RBN Network Antivirus.

There has been a huge problem the past few days, can anything be done before I have to move my angry clients to a new e-mail service, which would then make me angry

I think that it's a bit strange that this has happened suddenly. I have a lot of email accounts from different domains all on the same server and none of them are publicly shown anywhere. But with the last week a sudden huge increase in spam on a lot of my email accounts (how come they got all my emails at once if they are on different domains.?) I thought maybe I had a trojan or something and have run numerous checks and found nothing. I also have email accounts that are from my isp and from other places and I don't have this problem with them.
I get the same (spam) mail at the same time on 7-8 accounts with different domains hosted here.
The only thing I can think of is that someone has hacked into something????
Please try to look into this as I may start to lose clients.

There are 3 or 4 threads on this now. It's obviously a network wide issue.
I'm seeing people complain about on on both dedicated and shared servers.
I'm getting more that I ever have.

It sure would be nice to hear from HG on the issue.

I've also noticed a huge increase with spam over the past week. It seemed I never got Viagra messages and now I don't think it's stopping anything.

Well maybe the client database was leaked so all the registered domains are out in the wild and there just spamming random aliases of the domains?
All I know is I have catch-All enabled without any spam software and haven't received a single spam email EVER on any domain hosted at HG.
