Good evening,
I'd like to announce a small change to our server configurations and terms of service regarding e-mail limitations. As a number of users we're interested in having the limits increased quite a bit, we've decided to go ahead and allow up to 500 e-mails per hour to be sent from our shared accounts and systems. If you have any questions regarding the modifications please don't hesitate to contact our support team. Have a wonderful evening!

Please be sure to throttle your e-mails if you are sending more then a couple of dozen at a time. If you don't throttle your e-mails you might be at risk of having your e-mail blocked by one of the mail gateways. |

THANK YOU. I know someone who's looking for a host. I told him hostgator but that limit set him back to search some more. He's still looking so I'll let him know about this.
Thanks for listening to us! |

So, what is the correct way of sending 2000 mails via vBulletin mailsystem, when the limit is 500 an hour ?
Thanks |

Hi, I believe that vBulletin just like Invision Power Board that I currently use, throttles the mail by default. Sending say less than 50 per cycle, which in IP.Board is classed as 10 minutes, therefore it throttles the maximum mail that can be sent an hour to 300. Im sure that vBulletin also has this mail throttling technique built in! You are able to change the amount sent per cycle but anything more that 50 will overthrow the 500 an hour limit!

Great!
![]() So, I have one doubt: I am experiencing some "delays" when sending mails, since a few days ago. Nothing very complicated, but I have noted this. Can this delay be caused by some excessive traffic generated by the increased limits? Regards, and congratulations to all HG team!

poke around in your vb admincp. there are settings to throttle the email and set the limits in the backend.

vboptions, under email options. there is the "use mailque system" and "number of emails per batch." it's not elegant throttling, but it is throttling.

because Hostgator can't email Yahoo. Hopefully if the *TOP BRASS* really understands the ramifications something will get done.

What can't Hostgator email yahoo? I use phpList and just checked and found virtually no bounces from emails to yahoo accounts. Am I missing something?

Here's an interesting afterthought about the new MailPolicy. Even though we all love the new 500 emails per hour limitation, the webpage recommends that we throttle our scripts to 1 email per 6 seconds. Wouldn't that be 10 emails per minute, and thus, 600 emails per hour? Am I doing my math wrong?
I use DadaMail on one server for an email list of about 3000. It worked fine in Jan and Feb 2008 when I used it last, but suddenly it's timing out after 40-80 emails and I'm having to restart it. Since I didn't change any settings, I started looking at HG's policy thinking maybe something had changed. My prior setting was 1 email every 30 seconds (120/hour) - which left me room for replies and other business on the server. Apparently a lot of room since I wasn't aware of the new 500 limit (the old limit used to be 200/hour). Then, I also noticed the 60 POP checks per hour. So, even though I'm FULLY AWARE that a PHP mailsend is not a POP check, I still wonder if somehow that was causing my script to fail. How? Don't ask me. I'm not a sys admin. But the thought occurred to me that maybe the flag for such (internally) is based on some similar level of activity. So I just altered my settings to send out 10 emails every 5 minutes (which is still 120/hour) but accesses the server less. We'll see how this goes, but it's still a mystery to me about HG's own math above, plus why my script stopped being such a lovable script out of the blue. |

May i suggest to verify if the time your script is timing out is around xx hour and 9 minutes. Because recently HostGator decided to use a killing script to timeout processes between the 8th and the 10th minute of each hour...

I thought you were joking at first. But you aren't. That's exactly what is going on. Now the real question is how in the world we can run this script if H/G is doing this?
And perhaps another question is.... why? After all, all php email lists that use throttling that are over 500 emails are going to trip into a second hour (at least)... quite often going for half a day or more. And for anyone following the thread, my idea above didn't have any better effect. It also stopped twice - just between the times listed by regentronique. Sigh... I grow weary of this. Back to the forum search box with it's 20 second delays. And probably about time to open a ticket on this. |

I already started a thread on this killing process subject and sent few tickets.
