![]() As you can see in the screenshot, there are a TON of imapd processes running that ever seem to quit. I have those accounts open on 2 systems (using OS X Mail) and on my iPhone. What I can't figure out is why these processes remain running ALL THE TIME. I have my mail check intervals set to 5 minutes, and i unchecked the "IDLE" option, however these processes continue to run and only quit when I close my Mail app. Does anyone know how to adjust my OS X Mail configuration, or server configuration so my process count doesn't jump up just because I am utilizing mail? It has stumped me. |

I cannot help specifically with OSX or the iPhone, but I had a similar issue when using Thunderbird on a PC. It had a setting that controlled how many IMAP connections it would use for each mailbox, and the default was 5. I had two or three mailboxes open from two separate PC's and that was blowing the process limit.
It didn't seem to impact the mail processing, but would prevent other processes from starting. You may find your clients have similar options to tweak the number of connections. I believe an imap process will remain running for however long the application is open, I don't think the polling interval makes any difference to that. Rob |
