im kinda clueless...
i was hoping for a hatchling account
but i looked around and i saw all this crazy "reseller" crap. all i wanted to do is make a website with a forum. would i need anything other than phpbb, a bit of file transfers and a hatchling account? anyway, thanks in advance

The Hatchling account will work fine for a PhpBB forum. The reseller accounts are for folks that want to resell hosting to others.

Umm... where did you see that "Invision" can be installed using the control panel? (And did you mean Fantastico, *within* control panel?)
I ask because that is a paid product, not a free one.

Well.... perhaps. But Invision Power Board is not one of them.
It can only be purchased directly from invisionpower.com
