We were hosting a Japanese news site that went from no traffic to 30 million + hits a day instantly. It's as if the entire Asian world is going to his site. Of course we gave him the boot to save the server, but all the requests are still flooding our server even with him gone.

So many requests are flooding it the server has been up and down non stop since last night when we first began blocking Asian traffic.

Think of it like a big gas tanker trying to fill a 20 gallon car with all its gas. Once 20 gallons is filled it's not going to hurt the car if you keep filling. The gas is just going to go to the floor but the car will be fine, and in perfect running condition. The server is getting so many apache page requests the traffic is over flowing making most people not be able to get inside the tank. The server is fine and running perfectly just so many people trying to get in apache is going up and down from being over filled.

We have called the site owner in Japan earlier today, and made him change his name servers to point elsewhere. To keep our server from continuously receiving the requests. This will clear up just not a 100% till dns is done for most of the Asian world which could be by the time we all wake tomorrow. I'm shocked how much patience everyone has had on this matter. Usually we get more calls / angry customers from a minute of downtime. Thanks all! We are doing everything that we can.

One of my sites (www.lagxbl.com) is slower than hell. I assume the reason stated above is why... any news on this?

My patience was kind of stressed - I had a customer complaining about the downtime. However you have been SO reliable and helpful in the past that I told my customer that I was willing to stick through the temporary inconvenience because based on my past experiences, the problem would be resolved and everything would be back to its normal state. So, your past excellent customer service attitude bought you a reprieve from me with this problem.

I will offer a suggestion - this problem on 69.93.8.194 was happening over 4 or 5 days. I reported it on several different days. Each time I was told that the problem had been resolved, and then it started again the next day. That was frustrating. Plus, I was not given any details until the last day. It would have been useful to know what was going on.

For myself, I would prefer to be told from the start that there is an issue, and what it is, and that it may take a while to clear it. That creates mumbling and grumbling at the time it happens, for sure. But much less than having to report to customers 2 or 3 times that oops the problem that I told you was fixed is not fixed. To the non-techie person, that seems like incompetence.
Thank you.

This has been resolved days ago. stvwlf if we didn't tell you that means we dind't know. The day I posted this message is when everyone noticed it / we figured out the problem was.

I'm not sure what you are referring to but if it was days before it started nobody else noticed it. It might have orginally been diagnosed as a dos each time you emailed in / they blocked it. But it wasn't full fledge till this post was made when we knew what was going on. This is the weirdest traffic flood I've ever seen. Still not exactly what happened. My guess is some kind of country war against the japanese news site they attacked.

I'm aware that you're working on it.. but there still is a problem on this server. It's been up and down all day. Down now actually.. sure hope it gets sorted soon. I'm running out of things to tell my customers.

Thanks for listening

it hasn't been up and down all day. If you are having any problems please email support@hostgator.com as soon as you are with the domains having it.

He wants us to take your site offline for about 6+ hours to restore his database.
