Default https access

Hi,

I've just wondering if I can access my site with SSL (https://www.eines.cat instead of http://www.eines.cat) and my surprise is that appears a Spam page (information.com for being exact, it's a page similar that appear when a domain is parked).

1) What is this?
2) Can we upload files into a HTTPS space, or it's shared with the normal public_html?

Thanks!!!!

To access your site securely using your domain you would have to purchase and have HG install an SSL certificate for the domain. The page that shows if you enter an address that does not exist (for example, trying to access your site securely without an SSL certificate) is the default HG file not found page. You can search the forums for custom error pages and find info on this and how to create your own error pages.

Ok, thanks for the info

However, the 404 page that appears is not the habitual HG page (try yourself).

Thanks again

Before I used to just get a blank page but now I see what you mean. I got an information.com page.

You can use the shared SSL, with:

https://domainname/~username/

where domainname is your domain.tld and username is your HG/cpanel user name.

I see this with my websites too, and I don't like it.

I tried that, and got a "Server not found" error.

I was wrong--the formula is:

https://servername/~username/

you can get your server's name from Live Chat--it's something like gatorxxx.hostgator.com.

Turns out the search page is mandatory.
Unless you sign up for a dedicated IP.

I'm waiting for a lovely support technician to show me where I agreed to have a search page for HostGator's profit on all my websites.

You can alway make your own 404 page.

It's going to be easier and quicker to create your own 404 / custom erro pages than it will to argue the point with HG.

Custom 404's in cpanel take all of 3 minutes to create.

Thank you for the suggestion.
However, I am talking about HTTPS, not HTTP (for which I know how to create custom error pages).
I received the previously posted information from HostGator.

Their reply to my ticket:
Hello,
https://zowbux.com/ shows the server's default 404 page. This is because your site is on the shared IP address and so the shared SSL's default page shows up on your https address. If you need to fix this, you need to get a dedicated ip for your site from hostgator.com/ip.php .

Best Regards,
Shashank Wagh,
Systems Administrator & Level III Support,
Hostgator.com LLC.

Even if I were to pay an extra $2/mo for the dedicated IP.
It would only cover my main website.
Not any of the add-ons.

in the past, hg has donated the revenues for this to charity.
