Good answer, but to be more accurate I'd change that to say that dedicated hosting uses one computer to host just one client. If you buy a dedicated server through HostGator your theie only client that will be on that computer, but you can host multiple sites or resell space on it if you wish.

The thing that you need to know is that shared hosting means that you share webspace on a server. You also share resources and processor power. Shared hosting is the cheapest type of hosting. All accounts that you purchase for less than a couple of hundred dollars are shared hosting accounts. Don't be fooled by fancy names, like virtual dedicated hosting, or virtual dedicated servers. Just look at the price. If it is less than $150.00 a month, 100% of the time it is shared hosting.
