I am a 4 months old user of baby crock service.

I detected some shutdowns of the server aprox. 2 twices monthly.

The shutdown duration is 30-60 minutes aprox.

I not understand it.

Just keep an eye on the network status. There are usualy reasons to explain down time to resolve issues.

Hope those were the reasons you went down

http://www.zonacanalla.com/ I'm assuming that is your site. You are on gator3 which was up 45 days straight before it had downtime on the 9th.

Their was a hard drive failure yesterday on that box which resulted in the boxes first downtime in 45 days. I believe the last downtime before that was when their was a small fire in the datacenter, and the fire department ordered power to be cut.

Here is some more info on the hard drive failure....

We had 2 choices (listed below) we chose number one which was 50/50 chance of losing all the drives data. We did have a backup from monday so if we weren't so lucky we still would have been ok.

1: reinitialize superblocks
2: If you need to copy data over from existing hard drive...we will fresh OS onto new hard drive and then you could attempt to transfer acounts over to new drive. This would have taken a day at the least.

The outcome
"reiniatilizing the superblocks worked and the box is able to boot up correclty now...I also had to rebuild your fstab file and I'm in the process of doing the initquotas so that quota support will be working again. As soon as that is done I'll take the box back downstairs to the server room and put it back online."

We got real lucky on this! Most techs woudln't even have attempted to save the drive. If he have had failed downtime would have been at the very least a day while the backup drive transferred all account info onto a new drive.

No hosting is a 100% uptime the main reason being servers do break no matter how good the equipment is. If your site is every down email us or call us we will response instantly by phone or within minutes by email.
