Default How about hosting other panels?

How about hosting other panels?

Yes, Yes, before everyone says "What a dumb idea" hear me out.

cPanel is a nice toy, 11 is even nicer, but wouldn't it be sweet to have a Hostgator panel like award space? It would be amazing with so many features that could be added.

What are some things that their control panel does that cPanel doesn't?

do you mean doesn't? cPanel and the awardspace panel is way different. One has more features but doesn't have great bug support. The other one isn't used on any other site, but has more .filetype support and more.

I just think hostgator could make their own CP and get creative and add something cool.

Of course I mean "doesn't". Fixed.

HG has implemented some cPanel addons to shared servers that people have found useful.

I'm sure from HG's point, it makes more sense to use a proven system rather than to cook up their own and have to reinvent the wheel.

A list of comparison would be nice. Name some that awardspace has that cPanel doesn't that you are aware of. What do you mean by .filetype?

Yes, I guess so. But it would be nice, to see what HG would dream up.

LMAO!!! Its a course. Webhosting specialization is a course that mixes eCommerce, Tech Support, Networking, Marketing, Sales, Lastest operations of cPanel, Plesk and DA, including WHM, Windows Server, Linux etc, Took it at UNB

Damn ... my dreams of saying I had a Hosting degree are dashed upon the rocks of reality.

On topic ..

I like the idea of choices .. mainly because of being able to MAKE a choice instead of being directed to use a certain product.
As far as merit of Cpanels is concerned I have to defer to you that use it .. for I use it mainly to monitor my stats and do almost all my file manipulation via Dreamweaver and FTP.

hehe, your jokes are really good.

On Topic:

Yes, Choices are good, like what way slip on a ice patch, out shoveling your driveway in -30 weather. It would be nice to choose a CP.

Right now cPanel does everything we are wanting to do as far as a control panel goes and we have developed a few addons for it as well. We are spending our development time on bigger things that actually need to be updated like our new custom billing/ticket system that will be launched soon

Will it have management features for dedicated servers?
ex: Remote reboot, KVMoIP, reverse dns setup? sort of like Orbit.theplanet.com?

Lightbulb Thinking of switching to HostGator, Staying with what works.

That is exactly why I'm terminating all accounts with my former web host My former webhost thought that by creating vDeck3, it is cheaper.. add more features, etc.

That is their worst mistake as I've filed with the Attorney Generals office each account that has crashed on vDeck3 to get a refund my account with many important functions *NOT* working on vDeck3.

I have no problems with HostGator sticking with what they do best *WEBHOSTING*. A new control panel gets real old fast when things break and your website is down, email doesn't work, MySql crashes, etc. etc.. What is the sense of having 2,500 emails/unlimited forwarders, but can't send, receive or forward.. 1 email? 25 MySql databases when you are limited to the Auto-Install only and even that breaks. Website runs so slow that customers leave your website. Website down and you have to spend 1+hrs for telephone or chat support. Email tech support in 3-5 business days. I've been with this host for 8 years and tried for 3 weeks to 12 hours a day to work with them. Their billing says I'll get a confirmation of my refund in the email when I asked for a confirmation number. I never got the confirmation number for a refund nor have I received refunds as promised.. Only got a refund when I filed with the Attorney Generals(AG) office. So this means, I have to file with the AG everytime I need a refund. So I am very uneasy about any web hosting company trying to give quick fix scheme whether control panel, overloading servers, false advertising, etc. The vDeck people are now advertising more space than HostGator at less than 1/2 the price. *SORRY*, I'm *NOT BUYING*.

I am seriously looking at HostGator due to all the good reviews. Thus far, I have to switch about 50 accounts to other web hosting companies because this company thought vDeck3 was a novel idea(but doesn't work). vDeck1 was novel and I threatened to leave this company at that time when I was having serious problems with vDeck1 so they kept me on cPanel5 until I was forced to vDeck1. At the time I was forced to vDeck1, much of the bugs were worked out so I made the transition from cPanel5 to vDeck1. However, the transition to vDeck1 to vDeck3 is completely "insane" and forcing many of us to find other hosting companies do what they advertise.

If cPanel works with HostGator and is reliable.. Keep going with what works

I prefer Plesk over cPanel. It has MUCH smoother updates which means less downtime, it has WatchDog and I have found it to be much more stable than cPanel.

I would love to see HostGator offering a choice between Plesk and cPanel.

ME TOO - I just moved to HostGator and miss PLESK, especially the new version. Much easier to manage addon domains and associated files and users associated with them.

DirectAdmin is, for me personally, more logical and easier to use than WebHost Manager.

Cpanel for users is great. But from a reseller's point of view, WHM really sux.

I'm sure my pleas will fall on deaf ears, and I won't take offense *chuckle*, but if by some chance you can offer DirectAdmin for resellers, it would really make my day :-)

If you are a reseller, just pick up a copy of WHMCS and let that handle everything, then you normally don't have to touch anything in WHM unless you need to configure something specific, but as far as accounts go, the CS system will handle everything for you.

I moved from a cPanel host to Hostgator in because the have cPanel.

I would rather work with support that KNOWS one system well rather than one that is trying to support two or more user interfaces.

Another vote for cPanel only.

What would be the point to develop a custom panel, which would be buggy, and will take months of tests and updates to get close to good, not even perfect, when there's already cPanel whose there for years with a big development team supporting it?
