HostGator users could suffer real financial damage by following the HowTo listed prominently near the top of http://www.hostgator.com/shared.shtml where there is a link to http://www.hostgator.com/moving.shtml. The title is "How to switch hosts without having any down time".
This article fails to mention anything about Email or databases. After moving and calling the old host to say "Bye bye", the user isn't likely to be able to restore all the default Email messages, userids, or passwords. And any database contents will likely be flushed by this time. Most sites have significant database-driven contents, and people seem to like their Email. I suggest HostGator pull this article until it can be rewritten to warn about and help with Email and Database issues. Jack. |

The moral of the story is, don't call up your old host and say 'bye bye', till you know everything is up and running. If you did (or had done for you), a complete cpanel transfer, everything would move over.
There must be more to the story...... |

Even if you did keep your email messages on the server, presumably everything there would come over. As tomowa says, "make sure everything is up and running". If any user has created a situation where real financial losses would be an issue, it would be nuts not to do this. |
