Default HostGator

I am a current user of Interservers, but they keep having "up-time" issues, and I need some more consistency with my sites... I run large Vbulletin sites, with a CMS front end, and need consistant service... I also currently have a reseller account, any good with Hostgators? My current host uses Cpanel, so I thought this might be an easy transition...

is HostGator any good? or are they using the same backend as my current webhost...

Any advice out there?

HostGator uses ThePlanet as it's Data Centre. This data centre has a reputation for being one of the best in "the planet" Next to no down time, high level of support, low price and they also use cPanel/WHM.

How large exactly are your forums? You might be looking for a dedi and all HG has at the moment is a Celeron. They'll be restocking as soon as possible though.

And about TP, yeah. They're one of the world's top state-of-the-art DataCenters. Handling upto 2 million packets per second they have TippingPoint Intrusion Prevention System in place to block everything from DDoS attacks to a phpBB exploit.

Thumbs up Re: HostGator

I have had top-notch service in the 10+ months I've been a HG customer. There are issues that arise, but HG Support is quick to respond and resolve anything that may come your way.

As far as your vBulletin boards, you should check out HG's policy on emails per hour(200) and concurrent mysql connections per mysql user(25). Depending on how large of userbase you have, these may be of concern. It's better to be aware of these upfront.

If it were that large though he might be interested in a dedicated server which won't have those limits.

I may be wrong, but I don't think the "Semi-Dedicated" has those limits either.

Thanks for brining that up... My VB site has around 100-150 registered & unregistered (viewing only) users on their forums at most times... Will this be an issue with the std. reseller accounts?

I'm really interested, but need to make sure this will work before I go through the process of switching over... I really can't afford a $175/month dedicted server for this one account... Even $75/month for this site is kind of steep... I really need it to work...

Any advice?

It really only matters as to how many are actually logged in at any given time. You should be fine though with that size.
