All right, and I call HostGator by Internet, lines are so bad that I cannot heard clearly!!
He addvice me to send an email to sales@hostgator.com attach my ID photo. So I sent an email.
But the HostGatorsales said that they do *not* accpet this!!!
This problem is always on international hosting and I search the google.com.Some guys in our contury had the same problem and sent HostGator an email, with their ID photo. Then their accounts are verified!!
Back to me,the HostGatorsales said they need something like passport!
God,where can I get a passport?Do you think I'm Bill Gates or Jobs?
Do you think anyone could have a passport??
The ID card is official and it's given by Chinese GOV.

and FYIA, if you can't get a passport in China, you're an illegal.
i suppose you are like 15 years old then... every 19 years old chinese have a passport.

next time, verify your legitimity to have a service before paying for it...

I completely agree with HG verifications, stronger they are, better we are protected. The way you are using drivel is certainly not the best and the level of control increases each time they "Feel" a workaround.
I disagree with you nexia, whats about the 98% of US and UK citizen NOT having a passport, whats about the other "So called" 50%.

Even though the thread title could be even more constructive you are trying to say that the ID card is the legal equivalent of a passport in China so that should suffice. Wether or not that is the case I donīt know. I do know however that there other countries where the ID card is equivalent to a passport.

Drivel,

What is your verification ticket ID? I'd like to look into this for you to see if there is anything I can do to assist.

Thank you.

Thumbs up Re: HostGator------rubbish!!!

talk back to topic about the signup... and verification..

"In order for us to setup your account, we will need you to call us and verify your account. If you are not able to call, you can also respond to this ticket with a scanned copy of a Photo ID such as as a passport, or drivers license. "

i think above there, there is more than 1 way to verify your account.
... ooo.. you can use your driver license, scan it and reply with the email.

its not mentioning IC card. just driver license will do.

i am a canadain who has lived and worked in china for 5 years now. and it is really difficult for the chinese to get passports. so if your chinese don't sign up with gatorhost unless you have a passport. there is too much fraud coming out of china. for a hosting company just to accept you.

i understand the difficulties you mentioning...
i activate my account 2 months back.. by just calling hostgator.

if you perfer email reply to activate, just a copy of driver license will do. if passport is not available.

bottom line: i happy with hostgator, and indead is the best host i using right now. compare to other 5 host that i having now. i review them each.... visit my blog if you like to find out.

Hey cut the guy some slack.
English is his second language and he is frustrated.
In his defense I have visted China and it's really not all that easy for the average citizen to get a passporte there. In fact from what I saw you pretty much have to be wealthy and jump through hoops. (And if this was England, they don't consider a passporte legal identity.)

As an internation user myself with an american credit card...
I have to go through a couple of extra steps because of security.
But I haven't had any problems with service. In fact they have been fantastic !!

That was my understanding as well. I wouldn't expect most Chinese to have passports. Someone posted that all Chinese have passports and that may be so, but that is not what I've seen.

Not a direct comparison, but when I went to China in march the only way to even get in was to have the company I was visiting there write a letter to their customs service saying they guaranteed I wouldn't break laws, would have a place to sleep, enough money to live, and wouldn't become dependent on the government.

I can't imagine what it's like trying to get out.

I had spent several years traveling to China from the US. In some respect all of you are correct. Most Chinese business professionals can get a 'passport' that allows them to then get visas to many countries EXCEPT THE US! That is where it gets really difficult. Most CHinese traveling on pleasure frequently get a visa to Frnace or Canada and then get papers from there to the US. If they need to come to the US for business, there is a lengthy process for them to go through in China to get the passport and visa. Also, many chinese have "identity" papers, similar to passports that are used to travel within China.
As for going to China, one used to be able to get a 6-month multiple entry visa in Hong Kong through your hotel concierge for about US$125 (up through 2002/2003). That is no longer available, as I understand it. However, one can send an application to the Chinese embassy via a travel agent with your passport and get a 15 / 30 day one time entry tourist visa. If you require multiple entries into the country, then you do have to go the business route and you do need a Chinese business to send an invitation to the embassy on your behalf. (a real pain in the butt! This cna take some time to get it all coordinated).
In any case, acceptable ID's from China for the average individual are difficult to get. Given the potential market in China, Hostgator may need to look into alternatives for China that they can accept in lieu of passports!

Vice versa for a Chinese citizen trying to enter the US. Or most citizens of third world countries who would want to enter the US - they need a visa plus the letter (invitation).

I suspect that HG is pushing passports because it is likely dual lingual. Most internal documents will be Chinese only... thus difficult for Americans to read.

I agree with another poster that the verifications should be careful. For some reason all the spammers on my sites are from international. Also, 90% of problems on hosts are with new users coming in with bad intentions. Spammers regularly use paypal or methods of payment that are hard to verify. If you are a good guy, sit tight and play it out, or use a credit card with your real name and address on it.

As for HostRubbish, c'mon man that's flaming and not fair or accurate. This is a GREAT service and I have moved all my sites to hostgator. If it's taking awhile, bear with them as this is the best service you will find for hosting. I've been all over, trust me. It's all good so be patient and just play it out dude till you're in.

You're having a bad experience and I can relate to that. But you shouldn't really judge HostGator by that as there are thousands of happy customers here. You couldn't run me off with a stick because I have been on many other services, with hostgator 18 months or so. I aint goin' nowhere.
