Hi - I have read in places that Hostgator will own the domain once I sign up for hosting (i.e. whois will show hostgator).
How would I change the name to my own name in case I wanted to transfer to another host afterwards - or is this not possible/chargeable? Thanks |

Not so. Use your registrars tools to place your name within whois indexes. i.e Technical contact/Web admin/your address etc. Besides the only person who owns a domain is the person with access to it's DNS via a password hence it is crucial that your domain details and login remains strictly private.
Hope this helps. Chipfryer |

I spoke to support 2 days ago asking for the password to change the ownership of the domain into my own name (as I paid for the damn thing!!!). They asked me to email them and they would send me the username/password.
Simple request... two days later still being ignored Maybe hostgator dont like losing rights to domain names they didnt pay for!
