Default HostGator needs Java support on Shared Hosting

I really think that HostGator needs java support on its shared hosting services. I know that Java uses a fair amount of computing resources, but Java is still a popular platform and I think hostgator can probably win over more customers by supporting it. Even if it's an add-in that you have to pay for, or if you have to purchase a separate account on a shared hosting server just made for the purpose of serving up Java applets/applications.

This is something that other hosts that I've been looking at offer. It's just that they don't quite offer the value that HostGator provides (the $/feature ratio that HostGator offers). This won't be an issue for me yet, but in the future, it may become more and more of a selling point to customers looking for such a service. From what I saw, there aren't too many other services out there that offer Java support that I would bother hosting my sites with.

Please look into adding Java support on your Shared Hosting packages--even if it means a bump in the monthly price to add extra hardware/server to support it--I'd be willing to pay a little extra for this feature.

Hello,

I moved this thread from reviews to suggestions as it is more of a feature suggestion.

We have looked into providing java support and continue to watch current java development. At this time, we do not have any plans to offer java support on our shared servers or environments due to the various constraints and performance issues involved.

If your website or application requires java, we recommend a VPS or Dedicated server as this allows full control and tweaking of the environment to match your needs.

If you are talkign about the Java applets/ application that runs on client browser, you can do it Hostgator or any other shared hosting package. Server side java support is not needed in that case.

A hosting that supports Java is the one that allows JSP/ Servlets etc using Apache-Tomcat / Other web server. Java for server side is usually used only on Enterprise applications, which obviously doesn't run on shared servers. That is why you rarely see any shared host that supports Java - there is hardly any need of it.

It's not a question of need (there are plenty of jAlbum users out there who would love to be able to run the application server-side, for example). It's that Java is a resource hog, and ill-suited to a shared hosting environment.
