Hostgator Issues

hi i would like to register for hostgator but before i do i would like to know if anyone has had any issues running SMF and Wordpress on host gator.

Also how is the up time as i have seen some hosts claim 99.9% up time which wasn't close to true.

Many folks here run SMF and I have run WordPress (and WordPress MU) on several domains with no problems both on a shared server and on my dedicated server.

Glad to here it, that does comfort me a great deal. Something else that was brought to my attention moments ago was the 777 issue. Read my new topic on it for further details

As I mentioned in the other thread, that post was from 2003. When apache ran (or runs) as nobody then it is necessary to have some folders set to 777 so that they can be written to. That is not necessary on a server set to use suPHP.

So hows the uptime on Shared is it really something in the 99 range?
how often has a server been maintained while temporarily diableing certain features?

Skimming the network status category may give you some idea about this. (I doubt the category would be public if uptime were a big issue.)

That said, if it's that mission-critical, you shouldn't be thinking about shared hosting anywhere.

Disabling certain features? Such as?

Server uptime for me has been great. The only downtime I've experienced in the last 17 months has been for software upgrades and that's been about 4 times.

Lets say 4 upgrades at an hour each (avg) over 17 months.

That's about 99.97% uptime over 17 months.

@Gweneth Yeah just went over it, Thanks It looks good to me my last host started some changes like 1 week ago and they haven't finished. PHP was disabled, accounts were accidently suspended and a couple other things. The downtime was like 23 out of 24 hours a day, and now mine is suspended as well. Ofcourse not cuz i broke any rules or anything xD it should be solved within 1-2 days. If not as soon as the money from my bank account reaches my paypal acount hello hostgator! If it is fixed i might delay the move a couple more days.
