Angry Hostgator deleted my board and forced me to upgrade. Help

Hello everybody:

I have a SMF board and it worked fine. But now, Hostgator has deleted the database because they said the script is not optimized.

I submitted a ticket and this is the answer they told me:

-------
These databases were disabled by our staff as they were found to be causing problems on the server. You will have to modify the forum script so that your database queries are not as excessive.

You can modify the script just fine, as you are able to access the PHP source code. Since you're not familiar with programming, this generally leaves you with two options:
- Hire a programmer to optimize your scripts for you.
- Upgrade this account to a semi-dedicated server, which allows for much greater resource usage.

We will not be able to enable this account again until one of these steps is taken. This account caused other websites on the server to run very slowly, therefore we need to make sure that this does not happen again in the future.
-----------------

I can't beleive that a 500 visits-a-day board may cause what they said. Could anybody help me? I don't know how to modify the script.

Thanks a lot.

It can if the code isn't written correctly-- maybe it's leaving the MySQL connections open too long? Anyway, your best bet is to ask the SMF Community:

A 10 visitor a day forum could bring a server to its knees if it isn't configured correctly.

Normally problems start when changes are made to make things fancy. I've heard of people modifying their forum with all kinds of stuff and having it open 25 connections PER user... per page load.

Just use common sense. If you add 10 addons that use mySQL, then likely you'll be opening more than one connection per load.

I use SMF :-) love it, althou i don't use much addons.

I don't get much visits.

But its coded properly. and runs very well n is popular with joomla CMS sites as it intergates fine.

I see lot of issue's around her lately with people complaining about sites being down and sites being suspended an databases eing suspended.

Is quite worrying.

Althou to my knowledge i've not had single issue i have 8 sites on my reseller account. no down time in 4 months.

So is it users issue's ? rather than people given of about host gator.

Its hard decision

"Deleted" was never said in that ticket. The databases are still there -- you just can't access them at the moment, because they have been disabled.
