I plan on running a forum on Hostgator. I plan on having a Joomla Skin + SMF Forum combination. I know very little about this buisness (such a vocabulary, and basic knowledge).
While reaserching, I ran into a discussion. Several people said that you must watch out for "cpu and mysql usage" when being hosted by HostGator. (BTW, I will be under the basic 7$ plan). What does this mean, "cpu and mysql usage"? HOw will it affect my plan of running a forum (with little traffic). As always, thanks for the help. |

Basically, it means that as long as you don't have more than a few hundred people logged in at once trying to post, you should be fine on shared hosting. I have read 200-400. Any more than that and you start hitting the system resource limits and should be on a VPS or dedicated box. But then you are lucky to have such a popular site. But you should be fine as HG servers are pretty sweet and if you have trouble here, you will have trouble anyplace else.

Unless your site becomes a hit phenomenon or already is one, you should be fine.
