Default Hostgator - cpu and mysql usage

I plan on running a forum on Hostgator. I plan on having a Joomla Skin + SMF Forum combination. I know very little about this buisness (such a vocabulary, and basic knowledge).

While reaserching, I ran into a discussion. Several people said that you must watch out for "cpu and mysql usage" when being hosted by HostGator. (BTW, I will be under the basic 7$ plan). What does this mean, "cpu and mysql usage"? HOw will it affect my plan of running a forum (with little traffic).

As always, thanks for the help.

Basically, it means that as long as you don't have more than a few hundred people logged in at once trying to post, you should be fine on shared hosting. I have read 200-400. Any more than that and you start hitting the system resource limits and should be on a VPS or dedicated box. But then you are lucky to have such a popular site. But you should be fine as HG servers are pretty sweet and if you have trouble here, you will have trouble anyplace else.

The control panel lets you know what kind of resources your site is using and will alert you of any problems that crop up.

Unless your site becomes a hit phenomenon or already is one, you should be fine.
