Hostgator-- there's been some confusion over inodes. The new theme shows the number 250,000 as the limit. Is this just a reflection of how many you have, but 50,000 is still the TOS number? Or has the number of allowed inodes changed?

Apparently Hostgator made a fundamental change to their TOS some time ago without bothering to notify anyone so that now if you have more than 50,000 Inodes your site won't be being backup up by them and you run the risk of your account being suspended. An Inode is basically a file, folder or an email message.

I like the new cpanel. It makes me look at what I am uploading closely tho. I am having a tough time comprehending the inodes. My panel shows a count of 2477, but I have only uploaded a few pages and nowhere near 2400 files. I thought each file counted as an inode, am I incorrect? I do not have email set up, only static pages.

I did find a bug in my cp tho. When I click on faq, I get a ticket request, when I click on ticket, I get faq.

Ok so a question, We cant use more then 25% of the resources....Right now I am at the following...

4 out of 25 Processes
1.09% of CPU
0.9% of Memory

So I take it that if the memory or cpu ever reach 25% I am in trouble, but what about the Processes? Is it limited to 25 processes, or is it set that if you go over you are in trouble? My site is kinda dead at the moment but every once in a while I get a Digg and the traffic shoots up. Just wondering for when that time comes.

If you hit the process limit you will get internal server errors until the process die or killed and brought back under 25. The new tool we have included in the new theme allows you to kill these processes if they are hanging. Usually a process starts and ends pretty quickly. Its only when it hangs that you may have an issue.

You can find the exact definition of what an inode is by clicking here.

The inode counter is checking everything including cpanel files which allow your control panel to operate to emails to backups saved in the account. You might want to check your default email account to make sure that it isnt collecting spam and driving up the inodes.

The control panel has the meter shows up to 250,000. Currently our backups will only backup accounts which are set to less than 50,000. This doesnt mean you are limited to 50,000 but it is recommended to keep it less so we can have a copy of your backup. If you are over 50,000 inodes you can still run home directory backups as well as backup your databases individually. We should have some more information for you guys about this soon.

So then if I get a huge influx of traffic, I do not need to worry about the Processes, they will limit themselves. Only the Memory and CPU I need to worry about going over my fair share.

You got it. Also dont worry if you see them spike. That happens occasionally. Its only if it becomes an issue and stays over 25% for longer than 90 seconds.

Is the processes, memory and cpu usage for all 3 of my websites combined, or is it for each separate one. Meaning if website 1 takes up 13% of the cpu, and website 2 takes up 17% of the cpu.....and I over the limit?

The meter is listed per user. If you are running multiple domains through 1 cPanel then it will show combined usage.

Perhaps I'm missing something in the menus, but how do you sign up for email notification for Scheduled Maintenance?

Or is that automatic if you fill in addresses for the three "overlimits" categories?

Currently, there is no option to be emailed from the cPanel. That may be in the next roll out with the other features.

For now scheduled maintenance will be listed inside the cpanel as well as the forums.

Errr.... unless I badly misread a thread, wasn't it said (by HG personnel) that email opt-in would be a feature of THIS release?

I've been pointing that out to new users who complained about not being notified of Maintenance.

(I don't need any *help* looking like a fool, I can do that just fine all by myself. )

I am sorry about that. The announcement section was added to notify customers about scheduled maintenance through the control panel,etc...

I believe someone previously requested to have a section where the cp would email customers as well. We are looking into that and may be available in the near future. Sorry about any confusion there.

Ah, ok. Well, having it right in the cPanel is certainly an improvement. I look forward to the enhancements.

I never even knew that there were all those other styles. Maybe a note can be added to the "Announcements" box referring/linking to the ability to change the style so that people can revert to the style that they prefer; you need to let users know that they still have a choice.

I am liking the new style, though. Great job. Very interested on the "official" ruling on the inode count, too.

OK,

I am having issues with the new cpanel theme.

In IE6, the browser freezes when I scroll 3/4 of the way down the page and none of the info shows to the left.

FF3 works, but same thing with the info and no images show.

It seemed to work fine earlier. Have a support request in on this.

Thanks,

John
