Default Hostgator Corporate Look

This may seem pedantic or maybe not.

We use Hostgator and have found that the uptime and speed of servers are great, prices are great and the service levels of Hostgator are great, which of course is why we use Hostgator.

Our dilemma is that we have some corporate clients and we have competitors. Some of those competitors are geographically closer to our clients than we are or have friends inside our clients company.

With a little bit of investigation, it is not all that hard to find out who our hosting provider is for these people.

My problem is this. That our competitors may try to put Hostgator down as not being professional (especially considering the good pricing model), and possibly convincing our corporate clients of the same. The hostgator site and logo may not seem "professional" enough to them. Personally, I don't give a damn.. as long as the service is great., which it is.

Am I being pedantic here? Not sure.. but it may be something to think about.

People are sold emotionally, make decisions emotionally and colors, logos and general presentation are percieved at an emotional level.

Either way, keep up the great work.

Hi there,

it's true what you say about emotions playing a role in making decisions. Perception differs from person to person.
But, especially for corporate clients, that rely on uptime, pro support, fast servers, etc. these values should be much more important then the looks.
Besides, a slick, cool, pro looking logo or design can easily be used to cover a low-profile company.

Just my thaugts,
Stef.

As sad as it is, most of the time people do 'judge books by their covers' when it comes to web sites. I can't say that there is anything wrong with HG other than the fact that some people might have something to say about a gator for a logo - but what is HG supposed to do, change their name that theyve built up just for those select few (and mainly "old timers"/"old fashioned" people)?

Many a time I have come accross a site that really "wow'd" me - but at the end of the day, the company was something worse than [enter censor-type words here]. Most of the time its when the company spends a few bucks and buys a template or outsources the design and then the actual company core is made up of idiots.

The only true way to judge a company is to make use of its services.

Much to my frustration...

In almost 30 years of design I have tried to wow people with "slick & professional". And yes, I am pretty good at it. But 90% of the time it just doesn't fly.

Hey, I went with HG, goofy logo & all. And I'm pretty picky.

I like the logo, goofy as it may be... But it could be called "HostDogCrap" and I'd still be here as long as the service and support continues in the same manner I've seen so far... And besides, in over 5 years of hosting sites for my clients, I've never had one even ASK, much less try to investigate who the upline host is. Of course I mostly sell my hosting to those who's sites we've designed, so they are not interested in how it gets done, just that it does.
