Default Will Hostgator consider offering VPS?

I currently have a reseller account with Hostgator, but will Hostgator consider offering VPS services, similar to how VPScolo and Servint offer?

cheers

Leslie

There are no plans to include Virtual Private Servers to our line of offereings at this time, but as with all things, this could change in the future.

thanks for the update.

i'm sure if you looked at VPS offerings, it would make your services even more compelling.

maybe you could also beta-test something like this with a few of us who may be interested?

cheers

Add me to the list. VPS from HG would be great!

It would be good if Hostgator could provide some explanation, more details, as their is a large service offering gap that VPS would remedy. Is there a reason why not? Is it not feasible? Is there good alternative?

Thanks

Cruth, why did you dig up this thread? It's almost four years old; there have been many more recent threads about VPSes.

Another reason to lock down old threads.

VPS is not something that I see on the horizon and I've never heard any mention of it from Brent or our CTO. My personal opinion is that unless there is a large price reduction for Virtuozzo licensing from our datacenter it's simply not practical for us to offer.

Perhaps when we start seeing 32 core machines with multi-terabyte arrays with 32-64GB of RAM become cheaper it would be more realistic for us to eat the cost of licensing and have a farm of ultra powerful VPS servers where we could move clients from server to server or upgrade their space as the clients needed. This is of course looking far ahead and might just happen but for now I would count on what you're used to.

There are plenty of VPS hosts out there if you absolutely have to hit the middle ground between a shared/reseller and dedicated server but our Standard dedicated server or even an unmanaged dedicated server if you can get a hold of one (they go fast) would be my recommendation.

There is no reason to lock down old threads. He could have come in on a search from Google, or Yahoo... he could have come in through a link from another website.

When are people going to get it? Locking old threads doesn't make a forum better, and very often makes it worse by restricting a users freedoms.

Brent sent me a PM previously stating

We have the admins in house that could launch vps however we are so busy with shared and reseller this is not something we can do at this time.
So it sounds to me like VPS is on the horizon but they just haven't found the right admins for it.

I ended up going with JodoHost for my VPS. It's nice basically having complete control over your server without paying the huge fee for dedicated if you don't need it.

Ah didn't know that he had that on the horizon. Brent's right though finding people who can make this happen while still running our entire shared and reseller operation and all the dedicateds will be a task. Even though this thread is old I'll email him and have him update everyone personally on how far off he believes VPS may be.

Syntax-- are you aware there's a $75 unmanaged, and unadvertised dedicated option?

Could you tell me what's the difference between managed and unmaged ?

Live chat support tell me the unmanaged Dedicated server also has WHM and CPanel, and all software are same as reseller Plan.

Then, for what situation your support can help me and what I have do it by my self?

do you have some detail information about it?

thank you!

Since it looks as if you've got full forum access, you can get a lot of information in the Linux dedicated server subforum. A lot of the post titles will be interesting...to go back further, choose the appropriate option in the drop down box at the lower right.

We who have the unmanaged dedi call it the DediKiddy(tm), and there have been at least one recent thread about unmanaged vs. managed.

I would also like VPS hosting. Dedicated hosting are still expensive for me and I need to earn money first before I can sign up for that :P

If HostGator were to offer VPS I'd be on that pretty soon.
