I have a client that wants to be able to do his own page edits. What are any of you recommending (or reselling, better yet) to your clients?
Inexpensive and easy to use are highly preferable features. Thanks. |

Not really what I need for this client. I'm looking for more of a WYSIWYG page developer, similar to DreamWeaver, but much, much, simpler with way fewer features and capabilities.
Probably something similar to the interfaces that Yahoo and AOL use for their online website builders. It does need to be purely WYSIWIG. Thanks, Jeff |

Nvu is a free stand-alone WYSIWYG based on the Gecko (Mozilla) engine. It might be what your looking for. I haven't used the program (I also use Dreamweaver) but it looks promising.
Find it here: http://www.nvu.com Edit: Also, Nvu is available for Linux, Mac, and Windoze OS's. |

What about setting up some kind of CMS-- wordpress or textpattern or something? Charge him for the installation and conversion, and then it's easy from there.

Just to add, if you know php/mysql you can roll your own mini-CMS to do what you want. We do that with a lot of clients, make a feature-light but easy to use CMS so they can edit things themselves. If you PM me I'll show you an example.

Hi.
I have used SnippetMaster for a client. Pretty easy to setup. You can define certain areas of any given web page to allow clients to edit ONLY what you want them to edit. ( www.snippetmaster.com ) We've also set up Xinha and TinyMCE for clients before. They are small, standalone wysiwyg editors, but you'd need to wrap them in a php program of some sort to select files for editing. Another option would be to use the very small CMS Limbo. It is based on Mambo but does not use mysql database, it uses flat file database. Small and fast with a very simplified admin section. Overall we found snippetmaster pretty good adn there is a free version, limited but it does the job. chok deee khrup!

Take a look at Macromedia's Contribute:
http://www.adobe.com/contribute It is wysiwyg and is very easy to use. Works with any website, and ties in with Dreamweaver, so you can set permissions (what pages can and cannot be edited) from within Dreamweaver. We use it with several clients and they like it. bh |

I don't know if this is too lean for what you need, and I haven't installed it yet myself, but here's a php single file-application that you can put on any page...places a link to follow to edit that page.
http://sourceforge.net/project/showf...group_id=95462 We're going to try it for coop members to be able to change text on some pages, without screwing them up, and without having to institute a huge system. This looks like it could be dropped anywhere--and just as easily removed anywhere. |

Do not use SnippetMaster. It requires directories to be set to 777 in order to work. You should avoid this software like the plague.
