Default Hi! Just a few Questions :)

Hi guys, I've heard great things about hostgator and I am seriously looking into creating a new site on one of your servers. My main issue is, what happens if a site becomes popular enough to exceed your cpu limit? Is it moved to a different server or would I have to upgrade? I know that eventually, if a site is popular enough, I would have to get a dedicated box (as I've had in the past), but I'm curious about the intermediate stage. Too big for shared, but too small for dedicated - and the costs associated with that

On the flip side, if after 6 months things are not going as planned and I would like to shut down my website - can I opt out of the service, or am I bound by a contract for the full year. (probably won't happen, but just as for cellphones, I hate closed-in contracts).

Thanks a lot for the help. And I love the emoticons

If the account uses excessive resources it will be suspended and you would need to upgrade, most likely to a dedicated box.

There is a 45 day money back guarantee. You can pay monthly if you wish and cancel after six months if it is not working out.

To clarify, Rick is responding specifically to the six months mentioned by the OP; people can cancel at any time.

I've gone into detail and wrestled with how this is handled.

If your account exceeds the CPU limits (i.e. causes the system to run at a high load, or slows down processing of requests for the remainder of the users on the machine, or continually violates the CPU limits as set forth in the TOS), your account will be suspended. We try to suspend only the domain/directory/script that is causing the issue, though. If that's not possible, we'll suspend the entire account. We will also try to check and see if this is a legitimate over-step of cpu (i.e. hanging scripts, bad databases, too much traffic at once), or an attempt to DoS your site. If it's a DoS, we will attempt to mitigate, first. We always file a ticket, and notify you immediately whenever any action like this is taken.

THX, Its not that a new site would Become so popular over night that it would hit those CPU limits.

While it can take weeks/months or even years before you may reach those limits except in exceptional cases.

I think who ever gets suspended due to being POPULAR knows well about the requirements and loads (if not only money) their site is making.

Thats what As a customer i can say.
